Will Ferrell Talks 'Anchorman 2' and the Return of Ron Burgundy
Filed under: Comedy, Deals, Dreamworks, Movie Marketing, Remakes and Sequels
Great Odin's *McKay and Ferrell have been hinting at a sequel as far back as last summer, and they told Entertainment Weekly that they were already developing a script that would fast-forward Ron Burgundy to the 80's. Now, normally the word sequel is a cause for concern when it comes to a favorite flick, but I have to admit; it's an idea that has tons of possibilities. I mean, who wouldn't love to see the Ron in the world of cable news pundits? I wonder if Burgundy would be a Fox News or a MSNBC kind of guy? Nobody can play a lovable blow-hard like Farrell, and as long as the whole thing doesn't become overrun with bad '80s jokes about Rubik's Cubes and Thriller jackets, we should be good, right?
*Correction: You'll have to forgive the Burgundy misquote, it happens to the best of us.
Ferrell and McKay already have several other projects already in development including Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, and the buddy-cop flick, The B Team with Mark Wahlberg attached. So there is still a very good chance that Anchorman could go to the back of the line while Ferrell and McKay get to work on one of those films. But, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that they pick Anchorman, I mean, they would be crazy to pass up on the chance to bring the old Channel 4 News team together one more time...wouldn't they?
So what do you think? Do you want to see an Anchorman sequel, or would you rather Ferrell and McKay just leave well enough alone?

Not to nitpick, but the only cable news network in the 80s was CNN. TV news was still dominated by the big three networks.

I think Anchorman is just fine as a stand alone film. I don't really see an excuse other than to bring back the characters, which seems to be a less valid excuse these days.

Not only did the opening line to this article screw up the classic phrase "Great Oden's Raven," but halfway through you spelled Ferrell wrong!! As a diehard fan who quotes this movie almost daily, I am very excited to see Burgandy and the gang hit the big screen once more. Now why don't you go back to your home on whore island?!

By the beard of Zeus that would be absolutely SCRUMTRULESENT. I would definently aprove of such a genius idea. Think about it people Anchorman came into our lives 5 years ago (approx) and we are still quoteing lines to this day. Putting ANCHORMAN 2 into production would be doing society a favour.
