Will The Next Franchise Reboot Be Die Hard?

These days movie studios are really into the whole prequel comic thing. Every film needs to have a prequel comic series, or a graphic novel, or an animated series, or a 3D pop-up book -- it never ends. The latest studio who looks to be going absolutely bat-sh*t crazy with their properties is 20th Century Fox, who not only want to reboot Predator and Alien, but they may want to target Die Hard next. BOOM! Studios is releasing a comic book in August called Die Hard: Year One, and it follows rookie cop John McClane during an incident involving New York City's Bicentennial celebration in 1976, more than a decade before the events of the first film took place.
Though it's not a movie ... yet ... this is the sort of thing that feels like it's being placed in the marketplace to gauge fan reaction. I could totally see Fox rebooting this entire franchise with a new face in his rookie year. Why not? Who cares? Howard Chaykin wrote the new comic book, with art from Stephen Thompson -- and part of me is real interested in reading about McClane as a rookie cop, but another part is afraid this is only the first wave in what will eventually become an all-out franchise reinvention.
What do you think? Am I getting ahead of myself? Is this cool? Do you want a copy?

Isn't that a prequel? Why is the word reboot getting used so much? You should be edgy and say reimagining.

Lol Bubba, I've been thinking the same thing. Or we should just call these origin stories:)
I wouldn't mind reading the graphic novel but I don't really care for a film.

I really don't want to see this as a film. In print, fine, though I probably would never read it.

I swear to God, if they even think of going near Die Hard, I will make it my life's mission to fuck with that movie. I don't want to see any stupid graphic novels, and I sure as shit do not want anybody to even try to begin to consider thinking about toying with Die Hard. It is already a classic, and defined an action genre for years to come. It's bad enough they want to reboot Alien for christ's sake, but the thought of rebooting Die Hard (on top of being awesome, one of my all time favorites) really just fucks up my day.

Die Hard without Bruce Willis simply isn't Die Hard, it's just another generic action flick.
Can we do partial reboots? Like pretend the AvP movies never happened, and only Alien and Aliens as being canon? Alien 3 then can be about the Marines kicking more alien ass or some alien/marine war on Earth. This isn't rocket science!
I still cannot understand why they didn't capitalize on the tone of the second Alien movie.

This is kinda stupid. The whole appeal of the first Die Hard is that McClane's a regular cop who's in an unusual situation. It wouldn't make sense if he has done this kind of shit before. That lessen's the impact of his character's circumstances.
Just bring on Die Hard 5, a family reconciliation, maybe even McTiernan (if possible), and call it a day.

I'm sick of all these reboots already. How arrogant is this generation of studio execs/filmmakers that they think they can make old films better? Its infuriating.
