Trailer Park: Shrinking Toys in the Twilight
Filed under: Comedy, Drama, Trailer Trash, Family Films

The Final Destination
Take note of the definite article "the," as this is supposedly the final chapter in the Final Destination franchise. As with the other entries, a group of teens cheat death but are slowly claimed by a series of supernatural Rube Goldberg-ian death traps. This minor bit of scary movie fluff is made all the more interesting by the use of 3-D and I have to admit the man eating escalator (pictured above) looks pretty cool. Carnage ensues on August 28.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon
I haven't seen the original and I'm pretty far removed from the target demographic, but the overwrought dialog and performances here are a real cringe inducer. Suffice it to say if you like your teens angsty and your vampires sparkly then this Twilight sequel will be right up your alley. The ante has been upped by the introduction of werewolves to the story. Watch for this one on November 20.
Toy Story 3
This teaser doesn't give any indication of what the story is all about, but seeing Buzz, Woody and the gang again just makes me smile. Apparently Andy is off to college and his old toys have been donated to a daycare center. Sadly, we'll have to wait until June 18, 2010 for this one.
Shrink
Kevin Spacey plays a Los Angeles psychiatrist who has a high end clientele but is barely holding it together himself. Spacey looks like he's at the top of his game here, though the pot angle reminds me a bit of American Beauty. This could be a winner and it hits theaters sometime in 2009.
Bandslam
A high school band gives there all in a battle of the bands competition. This one seems derivative of several flicks including, oddly enough, last summer's The Rocker. You can start rocking out on August 14.
New on AOL Moviefone:
- Kabei Our Mother - In 1940 Japan a woman must raise her two daughters alone after her husband is jailed for voicing some unpopular political opinions.
- The Art of Being Straight - A young man discovers his true sexual identity after moving to Los Angeles.
- 9 - Second trailer for this post-apocalyptic animated tale.
- Beyond a Reasonable Doubt - A young reporter investigates alleged witness tampering by the lawyer who may be the next governor.
- Bruno - In Sacha Baron Cohen's followup to Borat, he plays a flamboyantly gay fashion designer from Austria.
- I Can Do Bad All By Myself - More cross dressing from Tyler Perry.

Why is THE final destination opening the same weekend as Halloween 2 -- are they playing a game of chicken? And why isn't 3D in the title anymore????
Can't wait to see this movie, great series.

I think it'll still mention "In 3-D in select theaters" in the real trailer, like most 3-D films do.
As far as Halloween 2 goes, I think the viewers of both are in 2 completely different audiences. One wants their memories of a classic horror film ruined, the other wants to be entertained, and nothing more.
I also think no one wants to compete with the Saw series, despite what people may say about it. It still makes a ton of money, why try and compete with it in October? It seems to these bumbling studios that the first weekend bank is the only thing that even matters, and sites like Cine place a heavy focus on that alone, rather than the full month's take.

The fact that you mention not having seen Twilight makes me believe you are avoiding it for all the wrong reasons. I find it unusual that someone who posts articles on a site / blog such as this one wouldn't at least see a film that's been as hyped as Twilight has been, regardless of what group / demographic was doing the hyping. I'm not suggesting you will like it if you see it, or that you will hate it, but at least see the film before you use such words as "angsty" to describe it...

It's all I ever hear (And yes, I've read them all, and watched the 1st film). With the blowout box office of the first film, you'd expect that everyone had seen it by now. But those who haven't still stick to their guns. Their best defense is "Look at it, it's made for teen girls. Guffaw, Giggle!". If that is the demographic they think the series is aimed at, they are so far off base, they don't even know.
I think I'd rather it be our little secret that next to HP, Twilight is the best book series of this century. Everyone else can keep trying to pretend it doesn't exist, but you can't escape it for ever.

you should probably remove yourself from the series for just a sec- the Teens ARE angsty. It's an observation, not an opinion.
And your advice that he should go see the film just b/c its been hyped-- not so sure about that.

The "angsty" thing might be an observation, but it's one that can't be made without first seeing the film. It seems to me that it's become quite popular for people who post articles on these sites to take shots at the Twilight franchise. This is all well and good, despite what I really believe their true motivation to be, but should be left to those who have actually SEEN the film. I finally got around to watching it last week figuring it was neither as good, nor as bad, as I had heard. It was actually better than I figured it would be. Was it as good as some other things I've seen? No. Was it even the best vampire film I've seen? No, again. Was it as bad as the people who trash it all over the web because it isn't aimed at them? No. The point I was attempting to make is that a person should at least watch a movie before they make fun of it...

saying they are the best book series of this century is not all that impressive as this century is only 9 1/2 yrs old.
