What Do 'The Dark Knight' and 'Fight Club' Have in Common?

I'm sure if you pick apart the themes and scenes from both films, you'll find that The Dark Knight and Fight Club have lots in common, though for the purpose of this post we're talking about a song called "Where Is My Mind?" from The Pixies. In David Fincher's Fight Club, the song played during the final scene as Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter lock hands and watch the city in front of them crumble to the ground. Remember? Well in honor of The Dark Knight's television premiere on HBO this Saturday, June 13, the cable channel is airing two pretty groovy commercials featuring the same exact Pixies song mixed with a bunch of those memorable (yet haunting) pieces of dialogue and scenes from last year's biggest film.
I couldn't have said it better than Brian over at MTV's Splash Page, who notes: "The shots of the burned out buildings and The Joker's hospital demolition scene are particularly effective with the music for anyone who has heard in the background during Tyler Durden's anarchist attack on civilization in "Fight Club." It's also a great match for an in intensely cerebral film like "Dark Knight" where the hero's sanity is constantly being picked apart as much as the villain's." So who's staying in with me on Saturday night to welcome Batman to HBO?
Watch both HBO commercials and the scene from Fight Club after the jump.

With on-demand services and netflix, is an HBO premiere that relevant anymore? I don't have cable, but this news made me wonder about the current status of premium movie channels with the popularity of the aforementioned services.

Seems more like bragging rights for HBO over Showtime who have gotten so much more attention for thier original programming lately, and have even been said to be a better choice then HBO overall.

I think they play this Pixies song toward the end of Observe and Report, too, when Rogen's chasing the flasher through the mall, in slow motion. Love this song. It's perfect for so many movies.

The song doesn't work at all in the first Dark Knight ad. There is too much dialogue from the movie mixed with the song vocals. It might have worked if they dropped the vocal track save for the non-lyrical bit. The second ad is a bit better.
The song is perfect in Fight Club, though.

The only thing they have in common is this preview. Fight Club is an amazing film with excellent acting and plenty to think about. The Dark Knight is an overhyped action flick that's way too long and makes 12 year olds masturbate while quoting lines.

Fight club should be referred to as an adaptation the Only reason parts of the film made you think was because they copied scenes and lines from the book. So technically the book made you think not the movie. They are both great but the book just rapes the movie
