James Bond 23 Hires Peter Morgan

If anything can make you forget the disappointment of Quantum of Solace, it's the news that James Bond 23 has taken the first big steps into production. No, that's not casting Bond girls or plotting explosions, but writing the script. Not surprisingly, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have looked again to the cream of Britain's film crop and hired a man who's gotten some attention at the Oscars lately: Peter Morgan. Few of his scripts have gone wrong (The Other Boleyn Girl is one mark on an otherwise impeccable record .. and even then, it's not that bad) and he'll definitely lend a lot of gravitas to the project. A lot.Morgan won't be penning 23 solo, however. He's got some old hands in
Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (the pens behind both Quantum and Casino Royale), who are returning to the franchise ... and well, so long Paul Haggis. I guess he's taking the fall for Quantum.
So, now to find that new director. Rumors swirled that Danny Boyle had been offered the job, but that was quickly shot down by Boyle in an e-mail to EW. While it's always possible he could duck in once the script is done, we need to look to the rest of the United Kingdom ... and possibly to Morgan himself, who is about to make his directorial debut with The Special Relationship.

QoS wasn't a bad movie at all, it was departure from your normal Bond films yes, but not a bad movie. It seemed to be the first that actually expanded on a past bond film and didn't try to ride the action train to generate success.

I liked QoS a lot. In fact, I think Casino Royale and QoS are the best ones since Connery. They felt like Bond films in a way none of them have in a long time.
Am I the only one who thinks this site seems to follow a general rule of "if it's not an independant film, The Dark Knight, or Iron Man, everyone will agree it was a terrible movie" ?

QoS was almost unwatchable compared to Casino Royale. The only things that can keep bond together is craig, and the only director that seems to be able to make great bond movies in the last 20 years :Martin Cambell. Besides Goldeneye and royale, every other film has been crap.

QoS was awesome, i don't get what all the hate is. This character and movie was the closest to how Ian Flemming described Bond in his book, i know i have read the books which i think many haven't...it was very nice and you have to look at casino Royale and QoS as one movie in whole rather than seperatly in order to appreciate it. Craig is amazing and probaly the best bond ever, if you compare him to how bond is described in the books. spot on, and the next will be that much better!!

Quit knocking QOS enough already! Seriously, it was a great Bond film!
That said, more Purvis and Wade? Though it was best Haggis left. He'd come up with some ideas (that weren't used thank goodness!) for QOS that just didn't fly.
I'm glad they are finally getting the ball rolling on Bond 23. I was just wondering today when things were going to start up!

Alright well back to who might do a good Bond movie. I will say Luc Besson who directed "La Femme Nikita" and "The Professional", two films that knew how to balance character with action

QoS was just a total mess, completely all over the place. I can't believe that a film with such talent behind it turned out so bad.

QoS was an excellent movie. It was stylistic rather than systematic. What? Are you upset they didn't spoon feed you a bad guy and a stupid plot? The cinematography was downright beautiful as the movie carries the colors of Italy through the starkness of Austria to the same colors in the high deserts of South America. Women find a way into Craig's Bond as fast as Bond finds a way into them and it is much more satisfying to watch than a stupid sex joke or a slap on the ass that would have come from previous Bonds even Connery. They even touch on the difficulty of who is good and who is bad in the modern world.
If the Bond people are smart they will build on the sophistication of the last two movies and include something that has never been in a Bond movie ... a woman with a child.

I found both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace to be enjoyable, though Casino was still quite a lot better imo. The direction of the Bond films seems to be that of a more gritty, violent and fast paced persuasion, which I'm totally fine with btw. To compliment this newer style I think that director Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men) would be a perfect match for the newest installment of the Bond saga. Would anyone else agree? or are there any other "curveball" type director suggestions?

For me QoS is a wonderful movie, great script, excellent acting, and beautiful cinematography. From the start to the finish there was plenty of story, action and suprises.
The only problem, it seemed too short and left me wanting another one. I have seen it several times and it gets even better each time.

Are you joking me?! Are you serious with that? QoS was undoubtedly one of THE best Bond films of the franchise thus far...though I do not count the Connery films among that conjecture. Connery was definitely the best Bond...he defined the character, though Craig does it fairly well I must admit. QoS gave the franchise some much needed new life and I love the fact that it picks up right from the first film, something that no prior Bond film has done thus far. The action was thrilling, the script was great with some good dialog (because personally I am sick and tired of all the old sexual innuendo from the previous Bond films...no sex jokes or ass groping thank god) and the cinematography was awesome (those scenes in the desert were among my favorite). All in all, TRUE Bond fans (unlike the author of this article) should have seen this movie for what it is...a revitalization of the franchise.
