Is Angelina Jolie Back for 'Wanted 2'?

You know, it's not that I think Angelina Jolie can't handle action, it's just that she's never really been given the chance to do it in a film that was...well, good. The bullet-bending comic book flick, Wanted is a perfect example. Granted, Jolie was livelier than I have seen her in a long time, but I still walked out of the theater wondering why she has never blossomed into the bad-a** heroine I desperately want her to be. Well, maybe she is going to get another chance, because Universal has been making ground with a Wanted sequel. So while most of us were pretty sure that we wouldn't be seeing Ms. Jolie again, Wanted's director Timur Bekmambetov seems to think otherwise. During an interview with the Russian news site, RIA Novosti, Bekmambetov told them that Wanted 2 will start prepping in July, and that Jolie would be returning for the sequel.Warning: Wanted spoilers ahead...
So think back to the half-baked mess that was Wanted, and you'll remember that Jolie's assassin commits 'suicide' -- on-screen, front and center. It was even rumored to be a condition of Jolie's participation in the film that she would die at the end (I guess to avoid committing to a sequel). But maybe Bekmambetov is engaging in some wishful thinking about Jolie's return, or he knows something we don't because he seemed positive that Jolie would be back. Last April, Evan Spiliotopoulos was hired to write the script, and it's a strange choice, but one thing is for sure, he is going to have to get awfully creative if they plan on bringing Jolie back from the great beyond.
After the jump; Who else could return for Wanted 2 and Jolie is still saving the world (without a gun) in her PSA for World Refugee Day...
Jolie might not be the only familiar face returning to the comic book flick, although it's not who you might think. Bekmabetov has already hinted that Kostya Khabenskiy could return as The Exterminator, and Terrence Stamp seems to think he'll be a part of the sequel as well. But the big question mark hanging over the film is still: "What about James McAvoy?" Well, I wouldn't hold your breath, because it looks like his return is even less likely than Jolie's. Bekmabetov doesn't even mention McAvoy in the interview, and the Scottish actor appears to be booked solid for the coming months. Although, if Bekmabetov is willing to bring people back from the dead, who knows what he might come up with to get McAvoy back in the picture.
But until we get the official word, I guess we will just have to settle for watching Jolie save the world in a more traditional way.

It's important to note that the character didn't just die, she killed herself. So any "no, she could have used her super powers to live" explanations have to take that into account.
What the hell, no! Don't do it!

I'm pretty sure I read on a comicbook site or something that the guy writing it and maybe even the director had mentioned that it would be a prequel, so as to get around the whole 'everyone is dead' thing. That would also make McAvoy's absence a non-issue.

Mr and Mrs Smith made up for the other movies.
I loved her tits and ass in the other movies, and her potential. So I agree mostly, but Mr and Mrs Smith should count.
Wow, I need sleep. >.

Wanted was absolutely awful. i planned it with like 6 of my other mates and at the end they were like " OMG WHY DID YOU MAKE US SEE THAT" and we took the shit out of it for about 2 weeks from there.
soooooooo absolute crap.
Jolie was the only positive thing about it!

Yeah!
Wanted 2 without Fox with Angelina Jolie would be impossible to watch...
I don't know it will be a prequel, the scene doesn't show her head blowing... Watch it again. We see the bullet going to her head and then she falls down; because her eyes are closed we assumed she's dead. Well. I don't know, just saying anything is impossible, the can curve bullets!

Bringing characters back from the dead is almost never a good idea -- and when it is done after the fact (ie, it is not part of the story originally and done simply to bring back a popular character) it is usually an even worse idea. I can't wait to see what they come up with. Make it good, boys!
And, BTW, Mr and Mrs Smith? Good idea; good casting; hated, hated, hated the script. That premise could have been executed SO much better. Your mileage may (and probably will) vary.

SO having seen Wanted and feeling like it was somewhat less than expected I am not eager to see a sequel. BUT... if they got rid of pretty boi McAvoy it might be much better. Not that I don't think McAvoy can act, far from it he is exceptional, but he is NO action hero... he just doesn't have that presence; DeCaprio has the same problem. Jolie on the other hand is action personified her charisma screams for a proper action franchise. And by the way Hackers was probably the closest she came to fulfilling that potential... much closer than Tomb Raider or Mr and Mrs which were both heartless pieces of...
With regard to how does she survive a gunshot wound to the head... well lets see... #1 how many skulls do you think a bullet can go through and retain killing velocity (so the bullet hit her does not mean it could penetrate to her brain) #2 How often has it been reported that someone was impaled through the head, either by bullet or other object, and was able to survive.
I say bring us Wanted 2 with Jolie and recast for McAvoy... I'd be there

yeah, the bullet may not have gone through her skull, but what about mcavoy exploding the whole factory?? did she escape while having head trauma? if she did, that would be the biggest load of bull since the loom of fate.

Charlton Heston hated sequels so much that he only agreed to do a sequel to Planet Of The Apes if the planet blew up at the end and thus ended any chance of a sequel ever being made. But guess what, they still punched out 3 more movies after that, so if the earth blowing up can't stop a franchise from continuing, then a simple suicide is a piece of cake.

Wanted sucked, even if some of my friends liked it. Even Morgan Freeman's acting was bad in this one. There wasn't one moment of believable dialogue and the twists felt like they were written on the fly, without any of the cast knowing about them.
It's not so much that the movie is bad (it's terrible), but it's just so overrated.
It took that same nerd-turns-into-chosen-one premise that The Matrix did and both stories have bullet-dodging/bullet-bending effects...
the only good thing about Wanted are the scenes with Jolie naked or straddling something.

Since when is McAvoy booked solid? The only thing that's known at this point is that he has a film that was supposed to shoot this summer that's been put on hold temporarily. I'd be fine with him not returning because I think he's too good for this.
