Watch This: Toy Movies

This summer we're getting two giant films based on toys we grew up with in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. But what about all those other toy movies in the works? What will they look like, and which directors will take on the tough task of adapting those properties that just don't lend themselves to big-budgeted feature films? Well, cartoonist Dan Meth, better known as the dude behind The Trilogy Meter and the Futuristic Timeline (which we just featured yesterday), has created another winner in this little animated short called Toy Movies from our good friends at Atom.com. Essentially, Meth imagines what some of the more famous old school toys would look like if they were adapted for the big screen by some of today's more interesting directors.
Featured in the video after the jump we have:
- Care Bears vs. My Little Pony: The Wreckoning
- John Lithgow in David Cronenberg's Cabbage Patch Kids
- Wes Anderson's Teddy Ruxpin
- Peter Jackson's The Smurfs
- David Lynch's Koosh Ball
- Ron Howard's Play-Doh Fun Factory
- John Carpenter's ALF

I wouldn't call The Smurfs exactly toys, since they've been here
from the 1950's, but if there was a toy movie I'd like to see, it
would be based on Toy Story's own Mr. Potato Head, at least
from a Disney prospective. Believe it or not, I haven't seen
any of the Toy Story films, because I thought Mr. Potato Head
was being used without Hasbro's permition. Both, Toy Story
and its TV Spin-off, Buzz Lightyear have had a great following,
so I would love to see a movie with Mr. Potato Head, or whoever
he's called in the Toy Story world, in his own Disney movie.

If you like this, you gotta see David Lynch's "Alf". If you can handle it.

Yikes, only cinematical could make ruxpin and the care bears creepy. But on a more serious note, may i suggest a Jem and the Holograms movie? lol, i know, it's very girly girl, but I just think it's sad that the closest thing that that cartoon/toy franchise got to a movie was being worn on Kristen Bell's chest in Fanboys.

this is very clever. I wrote something similar...some of my toy-movies included: the magic 8 ball, uno, and garbage pail kids. Here's the link if you want to read:
