Michael Bay Trashes 'Transformers' Marketing and English Language in Leaked Email

The latest saga comes via his e-mail account and TMZ. Back in May, Bay flamed Paramount Studios for failing to promote Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to his satisfaction. According to Bay, he's encountering people on the street who have no idea that his Transformers sequel will be coming out this summer, and that the film has taken a back seat to Star Trek and G.I. Joe.
"I have been waiting, and waiting for the 'anticipation' of an 'event movie' to make it into the 'public zeitgeist.' You all talk so glowingly about Transformers being the movie of the summer but unfortunately this has not gotten to the public ... You can feel in your gut the presence of a big movie coming. Right now we are not an event. We are just a sequel which is very different." Bay went on to name-drop Jerry Bruckheimer and "my good friend Steven," who would never stand or expect such poor promotion of their films."
As TMZ points out, Bay backtracked a little in an e-mail on June 6, and thanked everyone for their hard work ... but mimicked the nasty tone of his earlier missive before giving them them a big e-mail bear hug. "You have treated me so well. Paramount is like family." Which is probably why they keep on loving you, Michael, and forgiving your rants about a 23 flash frame cut of Megatron.

I would completely agree with Michael Bay that the film has been severely under marketed/hyped. I do not see many ads for Transformers 2 as i did for Transformers 1. I remember even non filmgoers coming up to me and saying "Did you mark the date on your calendar for Transformers" and of course the answer would be "Yes!" as for Transformers 2, I have not heard anyone talk about it.

If no one can tell the difference between a trailer for Transformers and trailer for Transformers:revenge of the fallen, then why bother promoting, it's the same turd. I marked my calendar that day to get a vasectomy, way less painful.

Michael Bay needs to take his "shut the hell up" pill. South Park already did the promotion his films need. Bay = Explosions.

Well I agree there has been very little hype, this type of movie doesn't need it. It is still going to be the biggest movie of the summer. And it's your fault to Bay, you wanted everything 'hush hush.'

Maybe he should make better movies! Can't care less for that 'over the top can't understand s**t what's going on' film.

Are you all blind? NBA playoffs and finals. Camaros turning into Transformers. Cell phones turning into Decepticons. It's all over the place, and knowing Bay he produced and did effects for the commercials and knows these expensive commercials are out there.

Bay just needs to stop directing movies.
What he should learn to do is tell an interesting story with characters you actually care about, so people who DO see his films will actually want to go back and see them more than once.
His latest, Transformers:RotF, is the equivalent to seeing a gorgeous woman and then having sex with her only to find out she was the most boring lay ever.
Summary: Michael Bay's future job should be as the explosions and special effects expert; NOT the film's director.
