Well, the time has finally come for James Cameron's Avatar to make its first ever appearance, and what a better place to start than at
Here's a few quotes to go along with two images from the film that were on display at an after party:
"Overall I was really impressed by what I saw. The effects are in a league of their own." ... "It took my breath away. I thought–just like you guys–that I've seen it all with Gollum, or The Hulk, but Cameron has done it again. These creatures seem so real, that within minutes you forget you're watching an enormous and very blue CGI character. Even the eyes are totally convincing. The characters have real personalities and a soul." -- Coming Soon

UCSNord's twitter feed states:
CGI was photorealistic, characters look really real. Believe the hype, this movie will be massive!
and
Cameron told audience each frame of finished film takes 30-50 hrs to render, then double that up for 3D.

When are they going to start promoting this film. It's only 6 months away and yet no one outside of film fans know anything about it. From what i understand the budget is huge. If they want people to see this thing they need to market it. Where are the trailers or even posters?

It's 6 months away, they don't need any trailers until August/September, and that should be a teaser. I predict the final trailer to come out around Twilight, since its in mid November. James Cameron has yet to be pleased with any of the 8 trailers that have already been made. He wants something epic, that will leave the audience wanting more, from just the trailer.
kthxbi

Considering that a) we have been waiting an incredibly long time for this, b) the hype is unbelievable, and c) I don't seem to be nearly as impressed with Cameron as everyone else seems to be (he's good, but let's not get carried away ...), this movie will have to be one heck of a masterpiece (and, indeed, drop one's jaw on a regular basis) to balance out the build-up. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

If I remember correctly, this is a 3d movie? you need to watch it on imax? Or is it just a regular 3d animated movie?

I know everyone thinks Cameron walks on water, and Titanic made a boatload of money, but really, aside from the sinking, it was really a POS, as was True Lies. But, if we can get away from the onslaught of hype this film is gonna generate, we know he's capable of hitting this one out of the park. Let's hope for that and not another Titanic.
