Farrah Fawcett Dies After Battle with Cancer
Filed under: Obits
Farrah Fawcett, one of the original Charlie's Angels cast members and the best-selling pinup girl in history, died this morning in Santa Monica, Calif, three years after being diagnosed with cancer. Actor Ryan O'Neal, with whom she'd had an on-again/off-again relationship for nearly 30 years, was at her side. Fawcett was 62. The Corpus Christi native and University of Texas at Austin alumnus had become relatively famous in the early 1970s doing modeling and guest spots on various TV shows, but it was her role as one of the three sexy crime fighters in Charlie's Angels, in 1976, that made her a superstar. The iconic poster of her in a red swimsuit sold 12 million copies -- the most ever for a poster -- and adorned teenage boys' bedrooms all across America. When she appeared mostly nude in Playboy in 1995, at age 48, it became the magazine's bestselling issue of the 1990s.
She left Charlie's Angels after a year to pursue a movie career that never materialized, but she earned critical respect and Emmy nominations in made-for-TV movies throughout the 1980s, including The Burning Bed and Poor Little Rich Girl: The Barbara Hutton Story. Her theatrical films included Logan's Run, The Cannonball Run, The Apostle, and Dr. T and the Women. Her last role was in the 2004 comedy The Cookout.
Fawcett and O'Neal have a son, Redmond, born in 1985.

Farrah Fawcett was pop culture's ultimate icon. Every boy had her poster. Every girl wanted her haircut. She inspired a generation of girls to kick butt and look good doing it. http://www.getback.com/gallery/farrah-fawcett-through-the-years/2987491/2/

I've always thought she was one of the most beautiful and semingly truely caring and honest people in celebrity. Good-by to a beautiful soul....you were too young. It hurts me to think of the pain you had to suffer and it truely seems like just yesterday that you were "everywhere"...youg happy, beautiful! My heart goes out to Ryan and Redmond, what a tremendous loss for you who were so close to her....but you were lucky to be the ones TO be so close to her. And, God bless you Ryan for being there for her during her last moments on this hard Earth. She was an Angel here and will be the most beautiful one in heaven too! Love to Farrah....you'er in God's hands now!

Although we expected Farrah's death, as it was imminent, from the cancer in which she could not receive the proper help for; for whatever reasons, (either it wasn't available here in the U.S., or possibly anywhere; yet, it is still very sad to lose such an icon. Today has truly been a sad day for all of the entertainment community, with the passing of Michael Jackson, as well. I feel very badly for Ryan O'neal. My heart goes out to Ryan on this devastating event, as it is being lost under the shocking blow of losing Michael Jackson, whose pop star status, (abeit well deserved), has unfortunately stolen the corresponding "star status" accolades in his obituary, which on any other day of this universe, would be deservedly lavished upon Farrah's life, and death. Though, indeed we are all both shocked, and properly saddened by Michael's death, my sincere, and deep, sympathy goes to you, Ryan O'neal, for losing the love of your life. May she rest in peace in God's hands, and recieve the bountiful grace He holds for her, by his side. Farrah brought so much joy to all of us who remember this angel, who is now residing amongst the real angels. She kept her grace until the end, and it is very sad that the world is too preoccupied by the glitz, (and shock), of Michael Jackson's death to give Farrah more than the passing blip she has received.
I mean no disrespect to the Jackson family, as my heart goes out to them, as well. I just feel like if it were any other day, Mr. O'neal would be feeling more of the love the world feels with her passing. I also lost my cousin this past week, in an untimely death, so I understand how much a few heart felt words can mean during such a sad time. This has been a very shocking week for deaths in this world, for myself, and my sympathy goes to Ryan, and the Fawcett, and O'neal families.

I feel so sad for this great woman, but now she at peace and in a better place. I think its a disgrace that all the media has turned Michael Jacksons death into a media circus and not much said about Farrahs death, typical media crap, give this woman a send off she deserves. Ryan,Redmond,Alana, and friends and family, my thoughts are with you, my own mother died of cancer the same as Farrah, when i was seventeen, god bless Farrah and Micheal.

Farrah was one of the most courageous persons that Hollywood could have filmed. She was beyond brave, she endured her last pains in the hopes of helping others that were maybe suffering the same rare cancer or similar situations. Could a human being find more bravery? I think not! God speed and may we all find that same meaning and strength of unselfish realization in being an earthly Angel to help others. Fly High Farrah and I hope your voice for anal cancer shoulders forth. Silence is everyone's shame!

The said truth is, if Farrah had had an anal pap smear she could have been alive today, but unfortunately the FDA can seem to release one that has already been developed! Will it take another 5,10 or 15 years of people as precious as Farrah to die before we do something? Also, they could give more people the HPV vaccine but they will not. That process will take another 20 for them of course. This is an outcry about our health care in the USA!

For Farrah (Fawcett)
A great beauty has passed from this life.
Of good times and sometimes toil and strife.
Some will say that she went to a better place.
Look at the blue sky or a white cloud, you will still see her face.
Movements like those of a gazelle in flight.
Hair that shone like gold on a moonlit night.
Eyes that could touch your soul.
And essence like that of a red rose.
Farrah, you fought hard to stay here on earth with us.
But when God calls you, go you must.
Whenever we feel a summer breeze or april rain.
It will seem like you are near.
And in our hearts, your memory will always remain dear.

Its a shame that she passed. I hope readers do not take this the wrong way but maybe if she got introduced to medicinal Marijuana it would of increased her chances of surviving the cancer. Melissa Etheridge speaks about her battle with cancer and how marijuana restored her health after the chemo. To read the Etheridge article go to:

I think marijuana (for medicinal uses) should be legalized because it prevent tragedies like this from occuring. One love Jack Treez
