The Hurt Locker sees director Kathryn Bigelow craft a big, booming tale of tension based on journalist Mark Boal's experiences and interviews with bomb disposal experts in the streets of Iraq. Toronto didn't just see The Hurt Locker earn raves from many critics; it also saw the film get picked up by Summit Entertainment for distribution. Cinematical spoke with Bigelow and Boal in Toronto about breaking the audience's unconscious link between an actor's salary and a character's destiny, whether or not their film is really apolitical, the fun and excitement of blowing things up on-set, how making the movie yourself is the best way to be sure you make the movie you want to and much more.Cinematical's podcast content is now available through iTunes; you can subscribe at this link. Yeah, this is the one. Cannot. Wait. To. See. This. Film.
The Transformers is for the mouth-breathers. This one's for true film lovers.

Great interview. Missed it at TIFF but the buzz and reviews intrigued me. Kathryn Bigelow comes across as very eloquent and capable. Haven't seen any of her films but will have to now. Really looking forward to seeing this film. It will be interesting to see if this gets better ratings than ex's Avatar. So far critics seem to love it so hopefully audiences will have the opportunity to see in across the country.

There's a nice video interview with Kathryn Bigelow, Mark Boal and Brian Geraghty on the Variety website. Peter Bart talks with them about the Hurt Locker, it's great. Check it out.
