Harrison Ford Returning for 'Indiana Jones 5'?
Filed under: Action, Casting, Paramount, RumorMonger, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Remakes and Sequels
I guess this is the news that nobody was waiting for, but the threat of another Indiana Jones film has been inching closer to reality by the day, and now The Insider has received reports that Harrison Ford will be polishing off the fedora and the whip one last time. There have been rumblings about a fifth film ever since Crystal Skull first hit theaters, but now we've gone past rumblings and finally started to hear some details. Both Shia LaBeouf and producer Frank Marshall have recently confirmed that a film is in the works, and now, Insider's sources are saying that, "...filming will not start until next year, and it will not be released before 2011." Now, if you happen to be mathematically inclined, you might notice that Ford will be almost 70 by the time the film starts production, which would probably make for a slightly less 'active' Indy this time around. I won't waste your time recounting all the ways that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a let-down for fans -- you know things are bad when an unflattering 'buzz-word' is created as a tribute. But maybe it's possible that a fifth film could correct some of those mistakes. Call me naive, but there is a very (and I mean, very) small part of me that thinks George Lucas and Steven Spielberg may have learned their lesson, and will go back to what made the original films so great. Maybe this time they could capitalize on the relationship between Indy and his son Mutt to try recapturing some of that Last Crusade vibe? But, I guess we can take comfort in the fact that no matter what those two come up with this time, it certainly couldn't get any worse than what was ... or can it?

I am down. they fixed Indy after doom. so why not again. I for one do not think skull is as bad as everyone says. It has moments of greatness. Get rid of the aliens and bring on religious overtones again and we will be in for a good ride.

oh and i loved temple of doom too, so if kingdom was the temple the next will be the crusade? cool....
which mean less pulpy, less creative and less edgy but thats what the masses of sheep want so whatever... crusade was able to be amazing without it being any thing new...

My biggest issue with the last movie was that it reduced Indiana Jones to a spectator for the final act. Fix that next time around, and I am down.

You're forgetting this is the George Lucas that created Jar-Jar. Oh, it can get worse.

Agree or disagree, I'm getting tired of hearing how bad Crystal Skull was. Let it go, people.

i'm curious about how they will do the fifth movie. Personally I thought the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull wasn't that bad. Sure the thing with the interdimensional beings (that's what the crew called it) was a bit far fetched but it was all in fun and I'm not saying its as great as the original trilogy but still, lay off a little.
Personally I think Spielberg and Lucas were kind of in the mood to make a 50s science fiction movie nostalgic of the ones from the 50s and i thought the tone for that was great. Its just that Indiana Jones didn't quite fit. Nothing to get upset about though.I wouldn't really mind if it was the same tone again and its possible that Spielberg and Lucas were just trying to get that out of their system but who knows. Either way, I'm ready for a rip roaring time : }
P.S. for all the people who think George Lucas is now a hack, take a chill pill. He is doing a thing or two that I'm not really liking either but he shouldn't be completely hated because of that. Plus, if any of you guys wanted, you could gather up your friends and make some movies that are nostalgic of the older ones you love with a video camera. I'd be doing it myself but I;m busy this summer.
Double P.S. sorry this post is so long.

Nobody's taking away from his earlier work, but his latest stuff has really screwed the pooch. Everything in "Revenge of the Sith" was pretty much horrific.

Are you all insane? Take a few minutes and read or watch some old George Lucas interviews cause I'm sure young Lucas would have called his older self a hack and kicked his own ass.
Lucas became exactly what he fought his entire youth against.

Well said, JaySin...mainly the interviews on the old VHS THX release of the Star Wars trilogy. Everyone remember those three part interviews we were forced to sit through before the movies started? Yeah, he pretty much turned on everything he said in those interviews.

I never understood the hate for Crystal Skull. Was it because it had aliens? I thought they fit the alien thing in pretty well with Indy and made it seem like it belonged. At least it wasn't yet another religious relic. Don't get me wrong Crusade and Ark were great but I would call BS if they could yet another religious artifact to give supernatural powers. I liked Crystal Skull, not more than Ark or Crusade but I did like it and I'm very excited for a 5th film. Maybe people should actually try to enjoy movies instead of seizing on the one or two things that aren't so great and using that as a basis for yet another "Worst. Movie. Ever." rant.

I didn't think the aliens were so bad, it was the CGI monkeys that really sucked, otherwise i thought it was ok. Certainly not great, though, and barely good.
That said, I'm still down for a new one...

I'd be able to tolerate and even enjoy Lucas' latest movies if they weren't so friggin' BORING! It used to be that an Indy movie got most of the exposition out of the way in the beginning and committed the rest of the film to action, suspense, and great character interaction. So why did they think it best to have Indy tossing gunpowder into the air, standing around talking in the tomb, and sitting down to stare at the skull most of the time? What happened to the booby traps, the whip, and the sense of adventure rather than a history lesson? It's like the big CGI battles between robots and clones; Lucas has given me no reason to care about what's going on.

Hate on Crystal Skull all you want, it was still infinitely better than Temple of Doom. Personally, I'm looking forward to Indy 5.

Okay, time to face facts here: Last Crusade was crap. The whole thing played as little more than a parody of Raiders. Sallah and Marcus were played as hapless buffoons. Indy's Daddy issues were a bunch of junk-psychology that had no place in a rousing 30s adventure. The opening sequence expects us to accept that all the elements of Indy's adult life were introduced in a single afternoon. The whole thing is a series of cheap one-liners ("He chose...poorly") and campy sight gags (the library stamp bit makes me cringe every time).
By contrast, Crystal Skull, despite a few missteps, felt much more like a true Indy adventure. If you can accept escaping a plane crash in a rowboat, or escaping God's wrath by, ahem, closing your eyes, you have no business complaining about the fridge scene. And all the incessant whinging about those brief cutaways to the prairie dogs? Eesh, how nitpicky can you get?

Nope. Just nope. Crystal Skull felt nothing like an Indy adventure to me. Horrible, horrible CGI overloads and just a generally feeling of tiredness seemed to pervade the whole thing. I thought it was bloody awful. Sorry, but Crusade remains my favourite of the bunch.

All of this hate for Indy...I'm really glad to know I wasn't the only one who enjoyed Crystal Skull. I'm getting tired of defending this movie, for the simple fact that I feel like it either worked for people or it didn't, and far be it from me to try and force it on you. For me though, Indiana Jones was the peak of my childhood heroes, and I'll go sit and watch these guys churn them out even if they promise to suck. I can't ignore Indy...he's still one of my all time favorites. On top of all that, I liked Crystal Skull. Was it as good as the original trilogy? No way. Neither did Live Free Or Die Hard, but that doesn't mean I wasn't psyched out of my mind to see John McClane again.

I agree. Crystal Skull was a very good and satisfying Spielberg/Indy movie. And one of my all time favourite actors was in it; John Hurt in a hilarious performance.
