'Hurt Locker' - First 8 Minutes Online

Bomb squad. War zone. Malfunctioning robot. In the opening sequence of The Hurt Locker, director Kathryn Bigelow expertly sets a tone of anxious, sweat-soaked drama. The film has been playing in New York and Los Angeles, expands to selected cities this Friday, and then goes wide on July 24. You can watch the first eight minutes online at Hulu (or after the jump).
And if that doesn't grab you, I don't know what will. I saw The Hurt Locker at SXSW, and that opening sequence pinned me to my seat. Guy Pearce leads a bomb squad that includes Anthony Mackie and Brian Geraghty. They're already suited up in protective gear as the scene begins, wisecracking and otherwise demonstrating an easy camaraderie. A small wheeled robot has a minor mechanical malfunction, requiring Pearce to walk into harm's way to fix it. The team's wary conversational bravado continues, even as they shift into high alert on the mostly empty street. Civilian bystanders could be friendly -- or they could be waiting to trigger the bomb.
Jeremy Renner, who turns up a little later in the picture, stars as a new member of the squad. He's a confident expert, but his reckless methods cause the others to question whether his devil-may-care attitude is needlesssly endangering their own lives. Ralph Fiennes, David Morse, and Evangeline Lilly also appear in small roles. I fully agree with James Rocchi, who wrote in his review: "You'll want to see it at a theater near you, in fact, on the largest possible screen with the best possible sound." Don't miss it.

Definitely go see this movie if it's playing anywhere remotely near you.
Also, agreed that high quality sound in the theater is especially important in this case. The film's sound design is great.

The sound design is incredible. At one point I found myself looking up at the ceiling for a helicopter that wasn't even on the screen.

I drove 112 miles to see this movie + $13.50 for the ticket & it was worth every single mile & penny!
This is the best war movie since ...RYAN & Bigelow's best since (the classic) NEAR DARK. (I also liked BLUE STEEL, POINT BREAK & STRANGE DAYS alot.)
Definetly catch on the best screen possible, but it's documentary feel will make it thrilling on just any screen larger than 19''.
I said this about UNITED 93 & it applies here: There will not be 5 better movies than this one released this year. I can't wait to see it again.
Bigelow's time has come with a movie that richly deserves all the good things being said about it.

Damn. That clip leaves you hanging. Looks like a good movie, although I'm not sure one I'd want to watch more than once.

This movie has been on the Internet for a long time, but I decided to watch it only a few months ago. It was great! Such a powerful performance from Jeremy Renner shows that he is really coming into his own. This movie reminds us that despite our personal opinions on war, those courageous soldiers are heroes that often must do what the rest of us are unwilling to do or deem impossible.

My son is an EOD Bomb tech in Iraq as we speak. He said movie is a fairly accurate representation. This depicts things around 2004, some techniques have changed, but other than that fairly accurate. His wife and the rest of the EOD wives in their company went and liked the movie. I as his mother am not sure I want to see it until he gets home safe.

Me and a bunch of friends from Modesto are driving to the big bad city to see The Hurt Locker. We've been waiting a long time to see Jeremy Renner in another film, we are more than excited for our native son's real leading role. AND we're not even going to complain about sitting in traffic to get there and back.
Boo for watching pirated movies online!
