Ryan Reynolds is The Green Lantern!

In a very surprising move, Ryan Reynolds has won the much-coveted lead role in Warner Bros. live-action version of Green Lantern. We reported earlier this morning that Reynolds was up for the role alongside Bradley Cooper and Justin Timberlake, but thought he'd be a long shot considering the fact that he was also gearing up for a solo Deadpool spin-off. But Green Lantern is definitely a better (and more popular) role for him, and Warners probably liked the fact that Reynolds comes with a nice healthy package full of good looks, charisma and physical force. Dude is huge, he's proven he can handle the superhero stuff (ie: Deadpool in Wolverine), and he's at that sweet spot in his career where something like this could turn him into the next Christian Bale.
Lantern fans will probably agree that he's the best choice, though I'm not crazy about actors who double-dip in the comics world, and I can see people wanting the actor to stick to either one or the other. Production on Green Lantern is set to start in January, with Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) at the helm. The Green Lantern is currently scheduled to hit theaters on June 17, 2011.
So what do you think of Reynolds in the role? Can he pull off both Lantern and Deadpool?

Wow, thats awesome. Is Deadpool even a for-sure thing yet? I think Green Lantern with Martin Campbell is a better property to be involved with than anything Wolverine or Marvel related (that isn't Iron Man).

While I generally don't like the idea of an actor playing 2 different superheroes, I guess I can make an exception because Deadpool is Marvel and Green Lantern is DC.

It would be fine except for the fact that he cannot act! He is at best suited for a sitcom. Bring back 2 Guys and he would be fine. Otherwise he is awful.

shut up dude, ryan reynolds is awesome. he may have done some shitty movies, but in all those movies he was the highlight. and who cares if he double dips, deadpool is marvel and green lantern is DC. So who cares

I love him, but does he have to play EVERY comic book role that goes his way? It's not like he's the only good-looking actor out there.
He should stick with Deadpool and make the character his own. Just look at what happened to Christian Bale when he tried to play two iconic characters... EPIC FAIL.
I'm not very happy about this. But whatever.

Well, judging from what I've seen of Cooper, TImberlake and Reynolds, I'd pick Reynolds in a walk. He can actually emote and has played totally different characters well.
The physique stuff is based on the availability of a good trainer so...
Congrats, Ryan.

I'm happy. Can't help but wonder if this means Deadpool fell through - but if he can pull off both of them, more power to him

Actually this will be his third dip into the comic pool, anybody remember blade trinity, but he is fine for Green Lantern he has got that cocky fighter pilot attitude. I was hoping for Micheal Weatherly from NCIS but they look like they could be brothers so it works for me. I just hope they do the story right.

I was really pushing for Cooper because it is bizarre to have a face I associate with Deadpool and Hannibal from Blade also be Green Lantern, but I guess he could play a good Hal. Better than Justin Timberlake at least.

I don't care if Ryan Reynolds plays Michael Jackson, as long as it doesn't F' up the chances of a Deadpool movie getting made. If you got the part of Hal, awesome, more power to him. But if this some how cause him to back out of the Deadpool movie (which will more then likely kill it), i swear, i will never ever watching another one of his movies again. A lot of people (most of them as uneducated to the ways of the movie world as i am) are saying that this has effectively killed the Deadpool movie. I'm praying that won't happen.
So worried right now...

Agreed.
Warners must be throwing some serious cash his way. It's so strange that he would pick this role along with being Deadpool, but if he thinks he can do it then whatever.
If this does screw with him starring in a Deadpool movie though, I will be soooo pissed.

I've been a Reynolds fan since the little known gem, School of Life. I consider him to be an awesome Deadpool. Unfortunately, he's a perfect Hal Jordan too. So as long as he keeps both, I'm alright with it. But Cinematical... don't be so sure this is a 'better' role for him than Deadpool. We haven't seen scripts for either.

YOu can't go from a Marvel movie to a DC movie? Really, I didn't realize you had to pick one character and play him forever. I thought actors could, you know act and play multiple roles over the course of their career.

Right. Your only argument is to just define what an actor can do? Ok, lets take this again. Why do you think an actor can cross over to another comic book character from another comic book company?
