The One Where 'Twilight' (Almost, But Doesn't) Ruin Comic Con

When the Wednesday/Thursday schedule for this year's San Diego Comic Con was released yesterday, those folks who attended last year quickly began to realize a pretty scary fact: that Summit Entertainment's panel for The Twilight Saga: New Moon was taking place 15 minutes after the panel for James Cameron's Avatar and roughly three hours after that giant 3D Disney panel featuring Tron, A Christmas Carol and Alice in Wonderland. So what's the problem, you might ask?
Well, last year Twilight caused an absolute Beatles-mania sh*t show with tween girls and their Twi-hard moms camped outside the convention center's Hall H for hours upon hours in order to get one of the 6000-or-so seats inside. Placing New Moon directly after Disney and Avatar will make it extremely difficult for fans of the latter two to gain entry to Hall H unless the convention sets up a line JUST for Summit's panel OR, as Slashfilm suggests, they clear out the space prior to Summit's panel so that Twi-hards won't take up the entire space all day while waiting for their Bella and Edward to arrive.
My money is on a special line just for Summit's panel; I can't imagine Comic Con would be stupid enough to let everyone into one line, making it so Hall H is all Twilight fans all day long. That's not to say fans of Twilight aren't also fans of Disney and Avatar (they probably are), but everyone should be given an equal opportunity to see whatever panel they choose, and since Summit's panel will find people camped out for hours upon hours upon hours, it's not really fair to ask everyone else to compete with that.
UPDATE: Summit has just confirmed to Cinematical that their panel has been moved up to 1:45-2:45. Furthermore, the Avatar panel has been moved after the Summit panel to 3pm. This should alleviate some issues.
UPDATE 2: The Friday schedule is now online. Check it out over here.

Twilight is part of the whole science-ficition part of comic-con. It doesn't necessarily have to be in a comic to be at comic con.

Sorry, Eric, but I must disagree that the schedule changes make anything better. Not clearing the rooms after each panel is one of the major flaws of Con.
In order for me to get a decent seat for Avatar, I will have to be standing in line at 5 AM just to make it into the hall for the first event (whatever that is), then sit through things I don't care about, and finally sit through something that will make my eyes bleed just so I can slowly inch my way up towards the front so I can see the Avatar footage up close and see if it is just as awesome as it is being made out to be.
All the time I am doing this, I will be missing numerous other panels that I really want to see AND denying the seat I am in to someone who actually does want to see the Twilight presentation.
So, just like every year, I will instead choose to miss the event in Hall H that I want to see because it just isn't worth it to waste a whole day in line and sitting through panels I don't care about.
I know I know, cry me a river - I will be at Con! But still, they should investigate arm bands or separate lines or something because my denying an avid fan a seat or not being able to go sucks either way, and thousands of people do it for every event in Hall H and even in many of the other rooms (like many of the evnts in Ballroom 20).
Enjoy your media credentials, and make sure to take good notes and pictures and share them here!

San Diego Comic-Con is really about the popular arts these days, not just comics.
Everything from Klingons and Stormtroopers to SCA bards and knights are there, with a healthy dolop of girls dressed up as if they stepped out of hentai, and a generous portion of toys and collectable memoriabilia thrown in for good measure.
Oh yeah, and movie stars, famous directors, sneek previews, and behind the scenes footage.
In other words, it is nerd paradise.

This writer is such a whiner! Comic-con always has lines, and it's always hard to get into certain panels because fans of panels after yours are camping. It's been that way since Comic-con got big sometime around 2002. I've been going to comic-con since 1993, and while I love that it's become popular, I hate that I just can't walk into any panel I want anymore like I could back in the old days. It's part of the growth, and if you want to blame a movie, you should blame the Lord of the Rings trilogies. That's when comic-con really exploded. Twilight is just the latest manifestation of it.
And for those wondering what Twilight has to do with comics, the answer is nothing. San Diego Comic-con International is a pop culture convention, showcasing comics, art, tv shows and movies. Most of the panels are genre/fantasty/sci-fi/action adventure type, but really anything goes.

Why should these people care about several thousand screaming Twilight fans standing in their way when Comic Con has made their reputation by jamming thousands of screaming male geeks into the same room?
