'Eclipse' Gets Its Secondary Baddie
The first big casting announcement is at hand. There has been a whole deluge of rumors about who would play Riley, Victoria's new right-hand man (of sorts) in Eclipse, the third installment of Twilight. Now the question has been answered. The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz Blog reports that Australian actor Xavier Samuel will play Riley. If you have a thing for Down Under cinema, you might have seen him in Newcastle or September. Now that I've actually read the Twilight series, there are two big question marks that loom overhead. For a vamp romance more concerned with cuddling than combat, one focused on the romantic inclination of tween and teen girls, how on earth will they deal with the bloodletting of the last two books? ...and with that, I give you a SPOILER ALERT...
Anyway... How will they deal with the showdown between Edward and Seth and Victoria and Riley, and then in Breaking Dawn, the bloody release of Renesmee and the vampification of Bella? Meyer might shy away from the particulars of Edward and Bella's romantic life, but she wasn't shy when it came to either of these two events.
Should things go along like the book, we'll see this cute Aussie lad literally ripped to pieces, and not just one subtle bite-and-spit like Edward performed in Twilight. Somehow I don't think the scene will make it as is. One, this is a highly youth-centric story and while some sexiness flies, decapitation is usually frowned upon. Two, it'd make time for more cuddling.
But what say you, Twihards?

Perhaps the "Twihards" should get a "Twilife."
I've read the first two of the Twilight series, and made it 1/4 through the third before I couldn't read anymore.
Seriously, it's garbage for anyone over 13 years old and/or without estrogen.

I don't know if you noticed in the movie, but they had Alice rip James' head off. And they had Emmett and Jasper dismember his body and burn it.
If the script for Breaking Dawn sticks to the book, we're going to need an epic battle in Eclipse to make up for the snore-fest that is the end of Breaking Dawn.
I think they should include what Stephenie Meyer wrote in the books for Eclipse and the beginning of Breaking Dawn. And most of the fans of the movies have read the books, so they know what to expect. It's not like they're going to take it to an R-rated level or anything anyway...that would take away from their box office gross.

I actually think you are worried about the story being watered down in the wrong places. Yes, the book contains violence that might threaten the PG-13 that the marketing department no doubt craves, though let's remember that Vampires do not bleed and thus it would not exactly be gory.
I think the place where Breaking Dawn especially will not be held up to the source material, thus preventing it from being the great film it could be, is nudity. A good version of BD would involve nudity (male and female) from a couple of the characters. It is mentioned specifically in a few places during the story and I just don't think you can really capture it without nudity, but they certainly will try.

I am in my late 30's and just read the series. Breaking Dawn is NOT for young kids, it's almost all sex and violence. After reading the prior 2 I was surprised by just how much there was. The end of Eclipse starts has some good real violence. They should keep to feel of the books, an NC17 rating could do the trick. I would be upset if there wasn't the sex and violence the books contain, it would take away from the integrity of them. How else can they deal with ripped, torn burning bodies, sex and the spectacle that occurs with Reneesme's birth if they don't show what happens in the book? They have to give it a stronger rating.
I know a lot of Mom's who will be going with their Daughters to see New Moon and I don't think it will change if the rating goes up.
