Seth Rogen Blasts 'Entourage', Won't Sleep with Doug Ellin
Filed under: Celebrities and Controversy, Fandom, Home Entertainment

If you watch Entourage, but didn't see it Sunday night, then this post will include spoilers. Be warned!
So I caught the latest Entourage episode on Monday night (because I like to tape my shows and spread them across the week), and in true Entourage fashion, nothing really happened during the episode (does anything ever actually happen on this show?), and yet it was still entertaining. One of the central running gags during said episode had to do with Knocked Up and Seth Rogen, and how the guys couldn't understand why anyone (including Katherine Heigl's character in the film) would want to sleep with the dude. Granted, the joke itself is sooo two-years-old, but whatever -- sometimes the show is very "now" and sometimes it's very "way back when."
The topic remained throughout the entire episode, coming up again on a double date and again during an after-party conversation where one character actually admitted to sleeping with Rogen ... while drunk. Kinda messed up, but Entourage is known for going after celebrities and Hollywood execs, agents, etc ... though the Rogen gags seemed a little harsh even for them. But maybe there's some personal history behind it. When E!'s Daily Ten caught up with Rogen, he had this to say about the episode:
"Yeah, those guys are a**holes. I actually ran into Matt...Kevin Dillon in a Starbucks. And he's like 'you know, I've got to kind of apologize because apparently the guy who created our show doesn't like you so much.' And I said 'well I have reason to believe because I think [showrunner] Doug Ellin is a moron from all I can understand so it makes sense he doesn't like me ...'
Read the rest of his quote after the jump and find out the real reason why Rogen doesn't like Entourage
[contd]
"... And I've kind of said some disparaging things about the show. Although in our defense, [producer] Mark Wahlberg called us misogynistic in an interview, so I think they kind of started that...It's on. Luckily I never have and never plan on watching Entourage."
There's a reason why Rogen doesn't like Entourage, and it's because he had a very similar idea for a show that he brought to HBO, but they passed on it and later picked up Entourage. In an older interview with E! Online, he said, "I just remember feeling really bitter. We thought the stuff we were writing was funny... and it just seemed crazy that no one else liked it. You start to question your own sanity. Like, 'Our HBO pilot isn't funny, but Entourage is?'" So was Entourage creator Doug Ellin aware of this, and was the Rogen subplot just a way of rubbing it in his face?
Here's a sample of the Rogen-related dialogue from the episode:
Turtle: His ugliness is oddly fascinating. Especially in Blu-ray. It just pisses me off.
Drama: Why would you be pissed off? I'm the one who was too good-looking to even get an audition for the role.
Did you watch the episode? Do you think it was just some old, clean fun or should Rogen have a reason to be somewhat upset?

I had the same question after watching Knocked Up. Why would a hot chick hook up with a guy like Seth?

Because there would have been no movie if hot chick had random sex with good-looking, employed, mature guy and decided to raise baby with him.

Saw it, thought it was funny. Lots of people get ripped on that show. I think "Entourage" should give people a heads up if their gonna rip them, though. Seems like backstabbing otherwise.

I'd buy that Ellin doesn't like Rogen for whatever reason. A lot of the targets on that show seem to be chosen because one of the writers has an axe to grind. Same with the dude who writes all the episodes that make fun of Kevin Smith. There's some history there, as well.
Doesn't really bother me, although it does seem a bit childish. The Rogen bit was beaten kinda beaten into the ground, but you also can't claim that it's not something other people have said in real life as well.
It's comedy. Everyone needs to lighten up and not take themselves too seriously.

"Entourage" is a comdey show so they are going to do jokes that make fun of all kinds of things and people. If you can't laugh at yourself what are you doing watching any sort of comedy these days? You watch "Entourage" its easy that in the course of 25 minutes you're going to hear jokes about, women, gays, jewish people, overweight people, african-americans, and more. Do I personally believe they do those jokes to be mean-spirited? No, I don't. Controversial, risque, and slightly raunchy? Absolulely, but you'll find the same kind of material in any Seth Rogen movie also.

I think Entourage is repetitive and afraid of any narrative development. They can insult whomever they want but in the end, that person can say "I'm working on something new, which is more than I can say for Entourage."

Seth Rogen's capacity for humor is dark enough that he could make Observe and Report work, yet broad enough to entertain the audience of Monsters vs Aliens. Hollywood is getting a bit oversaturated with him right now, but his fame comes largely from his ability to bring a unique sense of humor to a wide variety of roles. I haven't enjoyed all his movies, but he's been funny and likable in every one.
Whereas I think one of the guys from Entourage was the second male lead in The Devil Wears Prada.
Entourage is a fantasy about the kind of life Seth Rogen is probably able to lead, created by a bunch of guys who collectively have about a tenth of his charisma and charm. I'm unsurprised there's some bitterness.

Wide variety of roles? So in one role he wears a polo shirt while in another he wears a blue-button up... oh, and in another he's an animated creature. What his characters' names are and what they wear don't change the role. He simply does what most actors do - he plays himself. This was cool with me in 40-Year-Old Virgin. I hadn't to my memory seen him in anything before and his shtick worked. Then Knocked Up came out and the rest is history. The guy needs to go away and take Jonah Hill, Katherine Heigl, Kristen Stewart, Ellen Page, Cameron Bright, Gerard Butler and Drew Barrymore with him.

Hard to believe that Rogen had that response. In comedy you take shots. He should know that as much as anyone.I actually thought that was a really good episode of Entourage Sunday night. While I was a little surprised that the joke went on thoughout the episode, it made me laugh, and lets be honest it had alot of truth to it.

I agree with Tom, but Ellen Page and Kristen Stewart actually have talent, unlike Rogen. Forget Juno and Twilight. Page and Stewart have done better movies than those. Rogen does the same thing in every movie. I actually think that both Entourage and the whole Frat Pack is tired.

Seriously, the fact that Rogen can't take a joke is just lame-lame-lame. Admittedly Entourage has gone downhill, but who cares? It was still just a joke.
