First 'Alice in Wonderland' Trailer Now Online!

UPDATE: The trailer will return online tonight (7/23) at 10pm EST where Moviefone will be among only a handful of sites debuting it in full, glorious HD fashion. We'll return at that time and bring it back to you ... so stay tuned ...
The first teaser trailer for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland has arrived online via IGN, and the thing just looks bloody brilliant. Of course they save the best parts for the end, including a re-introduction to the Mad Hatter -- played this time by Johnny Depp, doing his best whimsical British accent. Starring Depp, Anne Hathaway (as the White Queen), Helena Bonham Carter (as the Red Queen), Alan Rickman (as the Caterpillar), Michael Sheen (as the White Rabbit), Stephen Fry (as the Cheshire Cat), Christopher Lee (as the Jabberwock), Crispin Glover (as the Knave of Hearts) and Matt Lucas (as both Tweedledee and Tweedledum), this version of Alice in Wonderland picks up ten years after Alice's original visit. This time she's a 19-year-old who decides to return for another magical adventure and embarks on a journey to find her true destiny and end the Red Queen's reign of terror.
Burton really looks like he was in his element with this one, and after watching this trailer and looking at all the images and concept art, I think I'm anticipating Alice in Wonderland more than his last few big-screen efforts. What about you? Did Burton succeed here, or does it look like the film spent too much time making itself pretty instead of focusing on story and substance? Check out the teaser trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.
Alice in Wonderland hits theaters on March 5, 2010.
TRAILER REMOVED UNTIL TOMORROW AT REQUEST OF STUDIO :(

looks like johnny depp is gonna get a lot of screen time. they should call it, "Disney Re-tools One of its Classics with Live Action, 3-D, and Johnny Depp gets lots of Screen Time."

Good heavens, what kind of "story and substance" do you expect in a minute and a half? How can we possibly tell if Burton has "succeeded"? It's a teaser!!!
And it does look cool.

I'm so weary of Burton's style: Cartoonish, overblown CGI, eccentric character designs, and muted colors in substitution for dark storytelling. I did like "Big Fish", but "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Sweeney Todd" were both horrible. I am interested in seeing Anne Hathaway in her role: the costumes look stunning but unfortunately I'm seeing too much of Burton's all-too familiar trademarks.

If you don't like it, don't watch it. It's simple. No need to complain.

Tim Burton really doesn't like to include diversity in his films, does he? Even The Adventures in Wonderland TV show had black people in it.

At the beginning I was excited because it looked very much like Big Fish, probably my most enjoyed Burton outing. But eventually, I don't know. Everything just began to seem so fake and CG. I still want to see it, but I'm hoping the special effects, over time, will flawlessly mesh into a more real feeling setting.
Oh, and about giving Johnny Depp the only credit in the trailer is a little annoying I think. I'd emphasize the massive and talented cast if I were marketing it. But, again, it's only a teaser, so I can't complain too much.

May I please have those 1 minute and 34 seconds back? Wow, that was worse than I could have possibly imagined. Like many, I like Big Fish quite a bit... and Burton's early work like Nightmare and Beetlejuice is tons of fun... but his overrated "style" has never redeemed the fact that most of his movies are absolute suck. If the teaser is to be believed, I'd rather watch Charlie & the Chocolate Factory on repeat for a week straight than sit through Alice in Wonderland.

Apparently many people in this world do not understand true art and imagination. This movie looks amazing, and Tim Burton is brilliant. Johnny Depp is in a lot of his movies because they have similar minds. Deal with it. I'm seeing it opening night. I know a lot of people share my thoughts. It's usually the critical people who write comments. I haven't seen a Tim Burton movie I haven't enjoyed. I agree that they should have maybe brought to our attention all the great actors in the film, but I'm sure that will happen later. It comes out next year folks, chill!!

Well said David. It's a teaser. If you were going to market a film with one of the highest paid and well known actors on the planet wouldn't you make sure they were seen a lot in the trailer? I would!
OK so it looks very heavy CG. Can you tell me how they would pull off Wonderland any other way? I don't really know how since your average movie viewer is not going to be fine with puppeteering and studio sets that limit the imagination. I don't think you can point fingers at Burton about this when every other director is doing the same thing with CG.
As for muted colors. WHAT? That trailer was very colorful. His contrast in colors help define the scene immediately. Those flowers seemed pretty bright to me. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Big Fish seemed pretty bright to me. And you're right about color differences, It is his style. Why would he change that? Most people love that about him and most director don't really change their style.
The show looks fun.

Thanks, Greg. Although I must admit -- if we absolutely HAVE to have another "Alice In Wonderland" film, from Disney no less, I would MUCH rather see more of what they did in that Annie Liebowitz shot a couple of years ago... with Oliver Platt as the Mad Hatter, Lyle Lovett as the Cheshire Cat, and Beyonce Knowles as Alice. Google-Image it if you haven't seen it!
