UPDATE: We told you the trailer was returning. Check it out after the jump or over on Moviefone in glorious HD.
The first teaser trailer for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland has arrived online via Moviefone, and the thing just looks bloody brilliant. Of course they save the best parts for the end, including a re-introduction to the Mad Hatter -- played this time by Johnny Depp, doing his best whimsical British accent. Starring Depp, Anne Hathaway (as the White Queen), Helena Bonham Carter (as the Red Queen), Alan Rickman (as the Caterpillar), Michael Sheen (as the White Rabbit), Stephen Fry (as the Cheshire Cat), Christopher Lee (as the Jabberwock), Crispin Glover (as the Knave of Hearts) and Matt Lucas (as both Tweedledee and Tweedledum), this version of Alice in Wonderland picks up ten years after Alice's original visit. This time she's a 19-year-old who decides to return for another magical adventure and embarks on a journey to find her true destiny and end the Red Queen's reign of terror.
Burton really looks like he was in his element with this one, and after watching this trailer and looking at all the images and concept art, I think I'm anticipating Alice in Wonderland more than his last few big-screen efforts. What about you? Did Burton succeed here, or does it look like the film spent too much time making itself pretty instead of focusing on story and substance? Check out the teaser trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.
Alice in Wonderland hits theaters on March 5, 2010.

Perhaps I shouldn't be posting a comment considering the fact that I am a pretty heavily biased Tim Burton fan, but I think it looks glorious. In my mind, I already have a sort of "Wizard of Oz in CG" impression, & it makes it all the better.

Really? I have more of a "Alice in Wonderland in CG" impression...

I suppose that maybe I would get that same "Alice in Wonderland in CG" impression too if I seen any of the adaptations before or even read the Lewis Carroll novel, but the fact is I haven't. & it's not for lack of trying as I attempted to watch the Walt Disney version many times when I owned it only to only fall asleep before the film was finished each time. But, I'm curious, is that impression a positive or a negative one?

Out of Burton's films, his only real misfires were Planet of the Apes (which I actually sort of enjoyed so maybe my opinion on this is null) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

and you can consider me heavily biased the other way.
i think burton is by far the most overrated director. even more so than michael bay, who doesnt seem to even be considered by anyone who follows film to be decent.
he hasnt had anything of substance since 1990, and i include sweeney todd for the simple fact that i cant stand musicals. hey, i said i was biased.
anyways, he cant hold a candle to Scorsese, Aronofsky, Fincher, etc.

I agree for the most part (I do like musicals, so I in turn did enjoy Todd).
I don't know why, but the trailer for this film gave me flashbacks to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, one of Burton's worst (nearly as bad as Planet of The Apes).

I realize you are biased & nothing I say can change your mind, but I feel I should elaborate: by mentioning I am a heavily biased Tim Burton fan, it's mostly in defense of his style & how his films seem to be unmistakably his. While other directors have this same talent for better or for worse, I enjoy stepping into a new slice of Burton's mind with each new film every time. Even moreso than the other directors you mentioned, although I'd agree that their film-craftsmanship is far superior. I'd even add Ridley Scott before the "etc."

I usually love Tim's movies, Coroline was a little bit of a let down.(I guess not every movie can be a 10) I hope this has a script that holds up to the visual experiance. Tim and Johnny and Danny Elfman have made a great team. As much as I love Johnny Depp, I am starting to get burned out. Big Fish is one of my favorite movies, scripts, and soundtracts. I awaite anxously this release.

Burton didn't do Coraline. Henry Selick did.

Yeah, Tim Burton had nothing to do with Coraline. I did, however, love that movie.

well that was remarkably unimpressive...
if this is as bad as that horrendous 'willy wonka' remake, i'll probably have to stop watching Burton's movies permanently.

That's bit more reality like Alice shrink and her cloths stay same scale. That's not so Walt Disney, isn't it?

-"Willy Wonka" wasn't a remake, it was a reimagining. It was much closer to the book than the previous film was and was in no way based to be a remake.
-But any ways, now that that is off of my chest, I'm excited about this. If any one has the imagination or the talent to pull off an adaption of Lewis Carroll's story, it would be Burton.

Willy Wonka SUcked plain and simple it's Burton knows better he will learn from that mistake of a movie and fix everything that went wrong with it. otherwise these bad films are going to start to stick if they have'nt already.

I think that everyone seems to have forgotten the whole movie going experience. Willy Wonka was not the best, but after watching it more than once, it grew quite a bit on me. Critics look for hidden meanings that the directors don't worry about. If your going to bad talk the directors past movies then why not just forget about googling this?
I am pretty exited for this movie. Sure its not the greatest trailer available, but then again it is JUST the teaser trailer, and I've seen very few teasers that draw me in. Either way, it looks great. Different from any other movies being directed. Tim Burton really does have a nack of making things...wierd.
But not like that has ever bothered anyone before.

Was wondering who was doing the voiceover of the trailer only to find it is The Mad Hatter - Depp. Different voice and character altogether from the past. Looking forward to this, but I hope the entire film isn't revealed via multiple trailers the way so many are these days.

I'm guess I'm the only one who loved Burton's Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. The Elfman songs were wonderful.
