On Thursday during the Disney 3D panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, moderator Patton Oswalt conducted a q&a session after revealing the official title of the highly-anticipated sequel to the 1982 sci-fi action film starring Jeff Bridges: Tron: Legacy. The film, which debuted via a surprise teaser trailer during last year's Comic-Con, has since moved forward into production, and Oswalt interviewed a panel of cast and crew members about its progress. Among the highlights of the panel:
- The film's title positions the film to be a follow-up without being "just" a sequel. It seems like the film will provide longtime fans with a familiar lexicon of Tron imagery while introducing updated characters, vehicles and locations to new audiences.
- Original music played over the image that revealed the film's title, presumably by composing team Daft Punk, which combined their trademark futuristic sounds with classic audio cues from 1980s video games. Steven Lisberger, the writer-director who created the original Tron 27 years ago, said that the film offered a personal rejuvenation of his creativity, in addition to just resuscitating the characters and universe for audiences. "We got to get to this frontier first and we got to dream big," he said in reference to the '82 film. "[But now,] we just scanned Jeff Bridges for real and put him on the game grid."
- Disney screened two clips, including a 3D version of the teaser that was created especially for Comic-Con last year (which looked terrific). The second clip was a scene in which Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) revisited his father's arcade, which looks identical to the set in the first film, albeit slightly older and more dust-covered. The best moment comes when Sam tries to play the original Tron video game, which looks just like it did 27 years ago, complete with primitive graphics.
- The following image is concept art of Flynn's Generation 2 Light Cycle, which is the so-called "fastest light cycle on the grid."

Hopefully they may make a STARMAN sequel too. I love Jeff Bridges. I even wrote a script for this back in 1998.

I guess im sort of a young buck from the newer generation. I dont think I started getting into movies till the early 90's so I missed Tron. My mom never had it play but I she did watch movies like starman, back to the future, and Terminator 2. I have seen stuff from Tron here and there and the animation might have been good in its day but now its just horrible so I find it really hard to get into and thus dont have a high opinion of it personally. Tho i respect other people who love it. In my books its kinda like Conan, its a good idea that we have seen play out in the past couple decades but when you watch it now its more funny than serious when watching. Im sure 30 years from now movies that I think are amazing will look like childsplay. So with all that said I am happy they will be rebooting this franchise for the new generation. This means I will have a chance to enjoy it as much as the previous generation.

I'm actually having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that you put down both Tron AND Conan in one paragraph! I'm sorry but if you ever wished to have a conversation about good movies, I'd laugh at you and walk away at this point.

In response to david's post, i'm only 22 meaning that i was born in the very late 80's and even i still enjoyed tron, IMO i think older films are and always will be better than the stuff you get nowadays because atleast they had a decent story line, nowadays everything holds to much faith in visual effects. Conan was a good film franchise as was TRON. The fact that someone could say that films nowadays are better is a very obscure oppinion and one that i think is only shared with a minority of people. TRON was a film with substance, granted the graphics and effects pail in comparison to what we have nowadays but you cannot deny that films from that similar era do have alot more standing when it comes to a storyline that does grip you and reel you in. Hopefully the new one will live up to the name the first one made for itself
