Beware! Ilene Chaiken Plans an 'L Word' Movie
Filed under: RumorMonger
Jenny Schecter might be dead, and the show might be over, but The L Word might find new life. After Ellen reports that Ilene Chaiken was at BlogHer over the weekend. When she was asked "Who killed Jenny," Chaiken responded with the revelation that she's currently penning a feature script that will address that very question. As fans of the show know -- the final season played out differently than the five seasons before it. Mia Kirshner's Schecter was killed from the get-go, and the rest of the half-season went back in time to display the events leading up to the crime -- events that offered a million suspects, but not a shred of actual proof or closure. Chaiken had hoped that would be a springboard for The Farm -- a lesbian prison show that had Leisha Hailey's Alice in jail for the murder, still with no word on whether she was actually guilty. Showtime rightly said no thanks.
I hate to say it, but let's hope this one slips into development hell. The L Word started as a pretty progessive, daring, and interesting show about lesbian sex, relationships, and life that slowly snowballed into ludicrousness that Passions would be proud of. But that's nothing compared to the post-show curveball of interrogation tapes. If Chaiken thinks that continuing the story after the series' end with web interrogations is a good idea, and that in one of these tapes a character should reveal an entirely irrelevant and never-before-mentioned incestual relationship, she shouldn't be allowed near the big screen.
I can only imagine what a feature film would bring -- Shane becomes a bible-thumper, Bette has a sex change, Helena gives up her worldly possessions for a job at DQ, Dana becomes Casper the friendly ghost...

If she makes the movie, put it straight to Showtime and then DVD.
And thank God that spin-off did that happen.

I wasn't super excited about the Farm spin off, but I wouldn't mind a New York spin off with Bette and Tina. I was really quite sad about the show ending and have been blogging non stop since I finished the last episode. I really do hope that they make a movie or something that gives the fans better closure.
I'm also really hoping they have some form of back up. It sucks that now the only source of lgbt representation on tv is the Logo channel. Which is great, but none of their series are even close to the L word.

Personally I love the idea of an L word movie, but make it like seasons 1-3 were, before things started getting weird!
Don't focus only on who killed Jenny (and actually I don't want any of them to have killed Jenny, cos I love them all...ok, so maybe Nicki did it, I'm not too bothered about her!)
But I'd also like to see Dana in it..(maybe some flashbacks, none of this ghost stuff!) and I also want to know what happens with Max's baby, if Tina and Bette end up moving to NY (Nooooo!) and if they have another kid (yesssssss!), if Carmen comes back to be with Shane (yesssssss!) and....well...I just want more L word!

I would LOVE an L WORD movie!! I want to see more Shane and more of everyone. I also think it shouldn't focus on WHO KILLED JENNY but rather focus on what it did in the beginning....the friendships and loves of this close-knit group of friends. I would like to see Shane and Molly back together...not Carmen....I mean why would Carmen forgive Shane and besides in season 5 Shane told Molly she didn't think that she had ever been in love before so why would she go back with Carmen. Shane should get back with Molly and I think that Jenny will have killed herself...I don't think she ever healed or overcame her old wounds....she was always so fragile...on the brink of disaster. I would just love to see more and maybe a few new characters played by Clea DuVall and maybe Liv Tyler and Joy Yandall. I think she could really make a good movie besides there should be more good lesbian movies!
