The 'Eclipse' Casting Change Turns Into a Cat Fight
Filed under: Romance, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Casting, Celebrities and Controversy, Remakes and Sequels
What started out as a surprising casting twist has quickly turned into an argument. First, Rachelle Lefevre wasn't trying to move on to bigger and better things by leaving vampires behind. Right after news that Bryce Dallas Howard would replace the Lefevre as Victoria in Eclipse comes a rather surprising statement the actress sent to Entertainment Weekly. Much like Terrence Howard in Iron Man 2, the Twilight recast has stunned the actress in question. According to Lefevre, she's out because of a 10-day overlap between Eclipse and Barney's Version. "I turned down several other film opportunities and, in accordance with my contractual rights, accepted only roles that would involve very short shooting schedules." Going by this alone, the whole mess seems quite fishy. One would assume that Summit would've warned the actress about when she'd be needed, and likewise, that she'd make sure there was no conflict before accepting outside work.
Well, Summit's press release answers those questions. They have expressed their disappointment right back at Lefevre, and paint an entirely different picture. Summit says she was advised in April about August production, that she waited a month after accepting the second role before alerting them, etc, etc. Basically, their position is that she screwed them over. (You can read the release after the jump.)
So there you have it. Will Lefevre fight back? Stay tuned!
We at Summit Entertainment are disappointed by Rachelle Lefevre's recent comments which attempt to make her career choices the fault of the Studio. Her decision to discuss her version of the scheduling challenges publicly has forced the Studio to set the record straight and correct the facts.
• Ms. Lefevre's representatives were advised as early as April that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE was expected to start shooting in early August. • If Ms. Lefevre was, as she describes "passionate," about being part of THE TWILIGHT SAGA, we feel that she and her representatives would have included us in her decision to work on another film that would conflict with the shooting schedule of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE.
• It was not until July 20th that Summit was first informed of Ms. Lefevre's commitment to BARNEY'S VERSION, a commitment we have since been advised she accepted in early June. Summit had acted in good faith that she would be available to fulfill her obligations both in terms of rehearsals and shooting availability for THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. We feel that her choice to withhold her scheduling conflict information from us can be viewed as a lack of cooperative spirit which affected the entire production.
• Furthermore Ms. Lefevre took a role in the other film that places her in Europe during the required rehearsal time, and at least ten days of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE's principal photography. This period is essential for both rehearsal time with the cast, and for filming at key locations that are only available during the initial part of production.
• Contrary to Ms. Lefevre's statement, it is simply untrue that the Studio dismissed her over a ten day overlap. It is not about a ten day overlap, but instead about the fact that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE is an ensemble production that has to accommodate the schedules of numerous actors while respecting the established creative vision of the filmmaker and most importantly the story.
The fact remains that Ms. Lefevre's commitment to the other project - which she chose to withhold from Summit until the last possible moment - makes her unfortunately unavailable to perform the role of Victoria in THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE.

Wow does anyone really care? It's not like a choice between Kate Winslet vs. Meryl Streep here. Just make her all CG...

Seriously. I saw the first crappy movie and I don't even remember who Victoria was let alone care who plays her. Then again I'm admittedly not the audience for this film series and I understand why they would be pissed.
But as if that's going to stop ANY of them from watching all of the Twilight movies and buy all the Twilight merchandises, etc. etc. etc. My advice to all fans out there, instead of whining in the internet talking with your pockets and STOP WATCHING THE MOVIES.
You know who I feel most sorry in all of this? Bryce Dallas Howard. As if she needed thousands of fans angry at her for something that really isn't her fault. She's an actress, a part was offered to her, and she accepted.

seriously if you dont like the movie and you really dont care then WHY are you leaving your stupid comments about it. Apparently you do care hence the reason you are following the Drama about the movies. If you picked a up a book and read you would clearly see why there is so much excitement around these movies.
I did not like the first movie but knowing the story behind it I am a fan . Hopefully there is alot more going into the next movies and they will be better

Um... because I like to read about film and film news in general?
I mean I supposed I could've been a bit more sensitive to the fans, but I thought I did that by saying how I understand why the fans would be pissed.

Here Summit goes again! First they wouldn't put the money into the first movie, making it so much less than it could have been and then they blame the director for all the movie's short comings. They even told her that she might have the same crap budget for the second movie (no wonder she bowed out.) Now they want to change our Victoria after two movies just to save more money. Come on Summit you are really starting to piss your fans off. My advice bring back Rachel get rid of Bryce and stop acting like greedy pigs. Twightlight fans made you and we can brake you just as easily.

Do you mean 'break'?
I am far from a fan of Twilight, but I doubt this is such an important factor for them they'll stay away from the next film.

Not a huge fan but in most cases the originals are hard to beat and it smells like the Howard/Iron Man TPTB bitterness. Bryce may be Howard's daddy's girl but acting wise she's not all that and was part of the messy Terminator Salvation. This will backfire like Maggie G.in The Dark Knight a step down from Katie Holmes.

I always respected Ron Howard. It's too bad his daughter is attaching his name to the racist, sexist, POS Twilight franchise.

If he'd read the books, he would be even more confused about the hype.

Guys, it's a movie, it's a casting choice, either by the studio for monetary reasons or due to scheduling problems. So what that's the nature of the biz. It's not like she's going to change halfway through the movie.
Take a deep breath, it's fun fluffy popcorn fare, not deep meaningful cinema.

We all know Bryce was the first choice for the series but it wasn't a big enough role for her. Now that the series has exploded, she wants in... Do I think the studio was in the wrong in how and why they handled this... YES, but will I still go see the rest of the series... YES. It's just too bad they changed her. I think it ruins a series when they recast different actors to take over a role that's already cast.
