Finally! A Full Trailer for 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus'
Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Trailers and Clips

Once in a very blue moon, a trailer comes that's so fantastic, so rife with fantastical eye candy, that even in its abbreviated form it's a million times better than a lot of feature films. After the teaser that popped up last September, a full trailer for The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus has finally arrived over at Yahoo (watch it after the jump).
The only bad thing I can think to say is that the trailer makes me wish even more that Heath Ledger never passed away, and that he could have had the chance to finish his role. While Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell look fine (Depp being the closest resemblance), it's the Ledger moments that shine. But there's so many levels -- a wildly original story (something so rare these days), great actors (Christopher Plummer and the devilish Tom Waits, too), and jaw-dropping visuals ranging from wild parties and ruins to rolling seas and candyish lands. Even if you're not a Gilliam fan, you should at least check out the trailer and get a peek at the effects and artistry. (The film may or may not live up to this wonder.)
But I'm also irked. Here we have a film that gives Christopher Plummer a lot to do (not to mention Waits), and Yahoo only mentions Ledger and his replacements in the little blurb to the right. Hell, it doesn't even mention Terry Gilliam.
Nevertheless, are you charmed by Parnassus?

the trailer does mention gilliam. looks decent but all gilliam has done since 12 monkeys is disappoint.the films look great but the films are devoid of story and not entertaining enough to hold my attention.

Not the trailer, but Yahoo's blurb that goes along with the trailer on their page.

I am charmed by it. I love Gilliam and his looks like another amazing film. I'm horribly sad that there was a need for replacements, but I think they have chosen the right people and I am excited to see how it all plays out.

Why does Ledger get the best acting nod for the (so-far) seen footage out of the other actors? If its because hes really THAT GOOD, fine. Im all for it, Im a fan of his work. But PLEASE dont tell me its just because hes dead now and its his last work and you shouldnt think otherwise.
If it sucks or its weird, its not his fault. But please dont jizz all over this guy because its his last work. I like Heath, but I cant stand another year of HEATH WAS THE BEST OMG!!!1!!!1

Looks really interesting, I'll definitely check it out and hopefully it's as full of creative splendour as it looks.
P.S. I love Tom Waits.

I just hope we get to see it on the big screen in the US, everywhere, not just in the big cities, if at all.... come on distributors... pick this up. Give us the chance to see it as it should be seen! Don't make us wait for the DVD.

I am pretty excited to see this film, if only for the originality and the visuals.

Like juice said, I don't think you should automatically lable Heath as the best actor in this (which, of course, there's a high chance he may be). For instnace, Colin Farrell's moment of screentime in the trailer was quirky and fun. But, yes, quite looking forward to this :D
