Movies I Will Never See: 'Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen'
Filed under: Action, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fandom, Dreamworks, Politics, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels, ShoWest

(Welcome to a brand new feature here on Cinematical, where members of our staff will write about films that, for one reason or another, they'll never watch. Which movies do you refuse to see? Here's Jessica with her reasons why she'll never watch Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.)
I've got an open mind when it comes to going to the movies. If I have a hankering to watch a movie, there's very little that a critic or fan can do to dissuade me from shelling out my hard earned dollars. But every once in a while there's a film that even I can't bring myself to watch, and Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen is one of those movies. Now, usually when I avoid watching a film, it's because I'm just not that interested in the actual movie (you know, things like story, genre, stars, etc.). But my reluctance to watch Revenge of The Fallen went way beyond indifference and into a whole new realm of 'taking a stand'.
Just to be clear, I saw the first Transformers flick and it was forgettable, but it wasn't all bad. Cut to two years later, and the new trailers for Fallen had me thinking: "Well, this certainly looks better than the last time" and I had every intention of spending an afternoon with giant robots kicking the crap out of each other. But then I saw Bay's ShoWest footage, which consisted of a crying Bumblebee living in Sam's garage while Fox stripped for no reason whatsoever ... and that was only the beginning. By the time Fallen had hit theaters I knew there was no way in hell this movie was going to get my money or my time.
After the jump: the top three reasons I will never see Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen...
Charges of Racism
This topic earned lots of ink (digital and otherwise), though I always felt the first film also skirted a line when it came to racism (I mean, what the hell was with Jazz?) But, judging by what I've been told, Bay and company have really outdone themselves this time. The center of the debate was the jive-talking, gold-toothed, illiterate robots, Skids and Mudflap, and when the 'oil' hit the fan, what was Bay's response? "It's done in fun. I don't know if it's stereotypes – they are robots, by the way," Ohhh, just because they're robots it's OK to use offensive stereotypes. Well I'll keep that in mind when I make my robot masterpiece, D-bag filmmakers.
Charges of Sexism
I remember quite clearly that it was the 'pimping' of Megan Fox that was the final straw. I'll just get the obvious out of the way right from the start: I get it, the lady is hot. But hotness aside, it doesn't mean I want to spend the next two hours staring up her shorts. Sure, this movie is 'made for boys' (whatever that means), but just because your audience is predominantly male, doesn't mean you should spend the rest of the time insulting the chicks who did decide to show up. Every headline leading up to the film seemed to revel in the fact that Bay saw Fox as little more than a piece of meat to be used as set-dressing, and in the end, I couldn't decide what was more irritating: the "stand around and look hot" instructions, or the rumors about how Fox scored the part in the first place. Either way, if I want to stare at a half-naked Megan Fox, I'll just wait for Jennifer's Body.
Don't Encourage Them...
If you've ever had to deal with a little kid having a tantrum, the first piece of advice people will usually give you is this: "just ignore it and they'll stop". Well, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that the same can be said for Michael Bay. There was something truly mind-boggling about the fact that both critics and fans agreed that the movie was stupid, loud, and nonsensical, but it just didn't matter. We were supposed to "turn off our brains" but sorry, that's just not enough for me (and I wasn't alone on that one). I love a silly popcorn flick as much as the next person (The Mummy, Die Hard 4, Wolverine, to name just a few) but just because I'm willing to suspend disbelief doesn't mean that I want to be treated like a total moron -- although judging by Fallen's take at the box-office, I might be in the minority there.
Sound off in the comments below, and tell me what movies you avoid like the plague?

Um, there really is no point for you to see it considering you already have your mind made up based off other peoples opinions.
I have a hard time understanding how you can write an entire (negative) article about a movie you haven't seen.
The movie has its flaws, for sure... but there is a famous saying, don't judge a book by its cover. You clearly have. You also based your opinion, off others opinions.
Your a reason negative word of mouth affects a movie. Sometimes, its just. The film doesn't deserve viewers hard earned bucks. But you my friend are the soulless ghost. A mimic.

The whole point of the article to explain why Jessica will never see the movie. It's a new column on the site.
I completely agree. I will never watch "Transformers 2". Unlike Jessica, I have never seen "Transformers" and won't ever watch it, either.
I refuse to be insulted by a film maker as moronic as Michael Bay. As Jessica states, there are plenty of decent popcorn flicks, but Bay just doesn't get it. Neither do mainstream Americans, apparently, seeing as they eat this turd up like they will never be fed again.
I also refuse to ever watch "Titanic" because tween girls saw the movie 15 times thanks to Leo and Kate and that inflated the box office take.

Insulted huh..
Its a movie. Movies are made for entertainment purposes as films are a form of "entertainment." You might hate Michael Bay, and thats fine I can not fault you on your opinion. But I don't understand how you can critique a movie without viewing it. You are basing your opinion of others opinions... which defeats the whole purpose of a frickin opinion!

first, if you want to criticize a film, I believe you ought to see it first. to say what you find wrong with a film before you've ever seen a frame of it is just stupid.
now, i didn’t really like the film either, thought it was too long and waaaaayyy to bloated but talking about sexism, racism and why michael bay is a bad filmmaker (by the way, The Island was pretty good i thought imo) so yeah your whole article and points are borderline brainless.

@ Brassy, The article is brainless, no borderline about it.
The only reason I read it was to see how bad she could make herself look. And it was pretty bad. Go back to Journalism 101. I was hoping you had some good points as to why you weren't seeing the movie, but everything you say is based on other peoples impressions. And the real kicker is when you say something is pointless, yet you haven't seen the movie, so you have no idea whats going on in the particular scene!

How do people like this even have a say on a professional movie web site?
It has to be who you know...

She can't list the reasons she doesn't want to see this? Seems reasonable to me. Entertainment is subjective. Should she have to see the movie to say the reasons she didn't want to see the movie. That doesn't make much sense.
This is a blog site full of opinions; Jessica can have hers. She's not a journalist; she's a blogger. This is a blog post. Disagree with her if you want, but there's plenty of movie trailers i watch and say to myself "well, never gonna see that turd". If I heard about the robots-in-blackface and the Transformer testicles before I saw this.... thing; I wouldn't have.
Shut your whining mouth and list a movie you're never going to see (because everybody has them) and the reasons why. Here's mine: the Halloween remake.
Reason: I like the original too much.
Rational? Maybe not, but it's my preferences that matter for my entertainment. Oh no; I wrote my opinion on a blog site, wanna level any dismissive remarks my way buddy? Good job picking Transformers to make your stand for "Journalistic Integrity".

No your not getting it beau... her reasons are mute. They are based off other peoples assumptions and opinions.
If, say for an example she said she doesn't want to see this movie cause she doesn't like silly scifi flicks... I probably wouldn't have dropped a note.
But her reasoning, for the most part, is based on other peoples opinions. Which is what makes the whole article crap.
"Movies I'll Never Watch... Transformers.
I will never watch transformers cause I'm not a fan of silly scifi flicks. The previews play out into something that is not in my interest. Oh and I don't like robots much either.
It seems like there may be racism in this flick based off what I've read on the internet... but I'll never know for sure since I will never watch it. Besides, even if I did watch it... the audience has already made up my mind for me. I will hate it."

Lol @ "mute"... it's moot, but who's splitting hares?
I love this "She's a hater" bs... I'd expand on that more, but I have a life to get to.

Of course, the movie did suck and everything she heard about it was true but I guess you want to ignore that part, right? Besides the whole point of this article is movies she will never see and why. We only have so much time. Should we spend watching movies that practically everyone over the age of twenty-five says is crap?

You know what people really really hate? Whiny bloggers blogging about whiny sh*t that they don't wanna hear about. Seriously, do something *productive* with this website. Whining just makes everyone's day that much more blah.

Hey, chill out hasbros. The feature is "Movies I'll Never See." she's not whining, she's checking off valid points that influenced her decision not to see a given film, as the title of the article suggested she would do.
I for one am with her on this and have no real desire to see this movie.

I get were you are coming from. Yet I don't see how you can complain about this film, then say you like "silly popcorn flicks" like Wolverine. Wolverine insulted my intelligence far more than Michael Bay or any movies he makes ever could. He knew the bullet would erase Wolverines memory? Ridiculous!
Either way I agree with the rest of what you said, looking forward to more of this new feature.

Ya, too bad it will end up being the highest grossing movie of the year. There have been a few movies I have had no interest in watching, but turned out to be pretty good. I realize I'm just one reader, but this is a lousy feature. The decline of this site continues.

p.s. I think 'Movies I Will Never See' is an awesome idea for a feature on this blog, and I look forward to reading future installments (and also reading some of the ridiculous comments that are sure to follow each installment).
