'Law Abiding Citizen' Loves Justice, Hates Cars
Filed under: Drama, Thrillers, Mystery & Suspense, Trailers and Clips
In the same post that saw The Wolf Man bumped back and The Fourth Kind moved forward, we were told that Overture's Law Abiding Citizen would be coming out much sooner than expected -- October 16th of this year, as opposed to March 26th of next year. And if the trailer (embedded after the jump) is any indication, Jigsaw's got good company indeed.Right after Gerard Butler's wife and daughter are murdered, public defender Jamie Foxx cuts one of the criminals a deal at the expense of the other, leaving Butler none too pleased with the outcome of the legal system. So he does what any mild-mannered man would do -- he waits ten years, kills the other criminal, gets himself arrested, and then holds the entire city of Philadelphia hostage with a vague but mounting threat until Foxx cuts him a deal.
I'm all for a good cat-and-mouse game, and if all you wanted from your Fractures and your Primal Fears were a few more explosions, then this might be the movie for you. Just don't wait a decade to make up your mind about how good it was.

This actually looks good...Butler may have finally pulled off a good film since 300.

i missed all these posts i have watched this trailer and shown it to countless friends EVERYONE is excited for this.
i love me a good old fashion revenge flick. you can root for the bad guy who is really still the good guy. i hope gerard wins in the film because normally they make the "law" make some last second comeback to win.
i hate that crap.
like julie said it does look like he made something good since 300. all those chick flicks were completely ridiculous. I am kind of surprised that his movie game or cable or whatever its called isn't getting any previews and if im not mistaken it comes out next month exactly one month before this one.
ah well im going to watch both. 300 made me a fan of gerard butler for life EVEN with all the chick flicks.
hes the only reason i was willing to sit through p.s. i love

I hope his accent is better than the 300, he just couldn't stop being Scottish! However, this looks like a great anti-hero movie.
Gerard Butler is uber sexy! Lots of scots are! I never agree with vigilantism. However, when you let the ''law'' do it's job and it fails. Then stomp ''livin'' daylights out of them. I mean if the plot is 2 guys break into house kill innocent child/mother with eye witness testimony, they get a deal( the DA has got to expect consquences) That is not justice that is gross. If they will let an intentional child killer go( what else are these people doing)
I over heard in the trailer the he is a ''brain'' not a spy. So, either he is CIA(ex) or MI-5(ex), meaning he plotted the destruction of people for a living!!!

I'm in law enforcement and I find this movie has a ring of truth to it that most people do not know. I have arrested many people and known for a fact them to be guilty. But when they get to court, they are given probation and let go or at the worst a small slap on the wrist.
I find myself cheering for the bad guy in this movie. Who can blame him for what he does...really? Maybe if some of these criminals start getting scared of the consequences of their actions, the streets would be a little safer for our children and family members.
