15 Ludicrous Straight-to-DVD Sequels That Actually Exist
Filed under: Lists
It's a long standing tradition in Hollywood of course to play it safe rather than risk making something completely original. Sequels? Remakes? Movies based on old TV shows or even toys? Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. Many is the time we've all rolled our eyes at the notion of a favorite film being needlessly sequelized but the very bottom of the sequel barrel is the straight-to-DVD kind. Over at Moviefone Kevin Polowy has assembled a list of 15 Ludicrous Straight-to-DVD Sequels That Actually Exist. Some aren't all that surprising. The kids' video market seems to have lots of these so Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure and Dr. Doolittle: Million Dollar Mutts (actually the fifth in the series) don't completely blindside me. On the other hand, did the world really need National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure with Randy Quaid boosted to headliner? The biggest surprise about Legally Blondes besides the rather clumsy reworking of the Legally Blonde title is that it carries the line "Reese Witherspoon presents." The list gets a double dose of French Stewart with the Third Rock From the Sun star filling in for Matthew Broderick in Inspector Gadget 2 and for Joe Pesci (more or less) in Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House. And need I say anything about Road House 2?
The list is a fun read but I would add a couple more of my own. Pulse 2: Afterlife which is a sequel to a remake that seems universally despised by all but me (yes, I LIKED the American remake of Pulse). There's also four direct to VHS (yes, they're that old) Scanners sequels.

If you want to learn about all the direct-to-video sequels, check out my site dvdsequels.com . It even shows what sequels are coming out.

Sad to say I've actually seen American Psycho 2 and Cruel Intentions 2 (although the third installment is what actually made this list). They are most definitely ludicrous.

I was surprised to find out just how many Bring It On sequels there were but I was more surprised to see 8mm 2 pop up on Starz or Cinemax. Jonathan Schaech (of Road House 2 fame) was the leading man.
Also, how many straight-to-DVD films land the star of the original, ala Starship Troopers 3 starring Casper Van Dien?

I haven't even seen the home alone 4 DVD thing, but five minutes of looking on IMDB reveals that you did minimal research before writing this.
Filling in for Joe Pesci? Sorry, but the 'Marv' character was played by Daniel Stern.
This would explain such gems uttered by Stern's character:
"Harry! I've reached the top!"
I doubt he would address himself.
Do your research before writing if you want someone to take your unofficial criticisms as anything but laughable.
This is the second time in as many articles I've read on this site that there was misinformation or someone writing an article based on something they knew nothing about: namely an article bashing Schindler's List written by someone who refused to even watch the film.
Get some real writers or go back to school and learn basics.
