80's Fever: New 'A-Team' Van, 'Karate Kid' Remake Images

Is it just me, or are there any other children of the '80s out there experiencing a strange case of Déjà Vu right about now? As we speak, those brilliant Hollywood innovators are currently churning out remakes and re-imaginings for films like Footloose, The Karate Kid and Red Dawn, while old TV shows like The A-Team are also feeling the big-screen love. And because it's our job to sicken (or, heck, excite?) you on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, we've brought with us some bodacious images from The A-Team and The Karate Kid, both of which are now right smack in the middle of production and due out next year.
We'll begin with the first image from off the set of The A-Team (courtesy of Splash News, see above), and, naturally, it's a shot of the new A-Team van, which, thankfully, greatly resembles the old A-Team van. Growing up I had a toy version of the A-Team van (with its awesome sliding side door), but lost it at some point -- so I'm actually looking forward to a potential A-Team van toy comeback, if only to watch my kid play with (and enjoy) something that's so totally mid-80s.
This new version of The A-Team is due in theaters on June 11, 2010, and stars Liam Neeson as John "Hannibal" Smith, , Sharlto Copley as Capt. "Howling Mad" Murdock, Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck, and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson as Sgt. "B.A." Baracus. Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces) directs, and Jessica Biel also stars as a general/love interest on the hunt for the renegade team, while Entertainment Weekly tells us that Patrick Wilson has joined the cast as a CIA operative.

Though they're calling this one The Karate Kid, it's in no way a straight remake since Jaden "Will Smith's Kid" Smith is in no way playing a whiney white Italian kid from New Jersey, but it does have a similar feel in that a single mom moves her and her son to China (not Reseda), and it's there that the kid learns self-defense from a wise Asian man (this time it's Jackie Chan). Will Smith is producing, and from what we know there unfortunately will not be a Ralph Maccio or William Zabka cameo, though either (or both) would totally be welcomed.
Check out the teaser art for the film above, and a photo from the set (which looks to show Smith and Chan fully embracing one of the franchise's trademark unorthodox training techniques) below. The Karate Kid, coincidentally, hits theaters the same day as A-Team, on June 11, 2010.

That was my first thought. I had to take a double look, even with my eye glued to the screen it still look like D.H.

That kid can't act. His part was terrible in "The Day The Earth Stood Still". This is Hollywood nepotism at its finest. I'll definitely miss this remake.

Bleh. If this were to really take place in China, he would most likely be taking kung fu. Karate is a Japanese martial art.

Yeah, this doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I thought they decided to change the name to Kung Fu Kid.

The film will be a huge hit, not only do we have a real karate master; Jackie Chan, we have a great young actor; Jaden Smith who plays the young boy 'DRE' who moves from America to China with his mother played by Taraji P. Henson , plus Jackie Chan plays the very funny character 'Wong Tong' from the young adult novel 'Fledgling Jason Steed'
'Dre' is bullied and seeks help from Jackie Chan, the film may have the same theme, but its better made and acted. The director of 'Agent Cody Banks' 'Harald Zwart'
steps in as director. Watch out for a box office hit and the best 'G' rated movie for the fall of 2010. The book 'Fledgling Jason Steed' is released at the same time by Sourcebooks Inc.
Expect to see a little romance between Mom (Taraji P. Henson) and Jackie Chan.

How can you say it's better made and acted when it hasn't even had any teasers out yet nevermind been released?
Wouldn't it be a shame if that kid got wiped out in a Brandon Lee style accident... hmmm

Wishing harm on that kid? There's nothing remotely funny about that. You should be ashamed of yourself.

LLama: How could you make a "Brandon Lee" refrence? That was a tragic accedent that affected many people. A great star was lost and using that as a joke to insult another actor is bad taste.
I am BIG Karate Kid fan and am looking forward to this movie because of the consept that they are bringing to the film. The change of scenery and the culture shock of the movie would, in my mind; make it more authentic. Don't hate and Don't fear anything new.

I'll agree with you there on the Brandon Lee thing, although he did only make one truely great film it was indeed a tragedy!
But I can't give you the remake thing, Will Smith is a total Hollywood rapist! Now Oldboy? hahaha
