'Ghost Rider 2' Gets a Fuel Injection with David S. Goyer

Most of us didn't ask the Studio Powers That Be for a Ghost Rider 2, but it doesn't matter, because we'll be getting one. Back in January, the whispers began at Bloody-Disgusting that Columbia was gearing up another Ghost Rider run, and today it has come true. Variety reports that the studio is talking to none other than David S. Goyer to pen a new installment. Nicolas Cage is expected to return as Johnny Blaze, and former Marvel Studios' head Avi Arad will be producing. Goyer was quick to say (via a spokesperson) that he wasn't officially signed, but that talks were underway to base Ghost Rider 2 on a script he did many years ago. If you'd like to know a little something about that script, you can read a review IGN did of it in 2000. Nothing ever dies thanks to the Internet and if nothing else, you can laugh at the rumors we once believed a decade ago. (Johnny Depp as Ghost Rider!)
At such early stages of fiery fuel injection, there's not much else to say. Since Mark Steven Johnson penned and directed the last one, it's probably safe to assume that if they want new writers, they'll probably want a new director. Variety hints that Columbia is keeping the property alive in order to retain its rights from Marvel, but it doesn't say whether or not they were up against a deadline. So, I'll quit talking and hand it over to the true Ghost Rider fans. Is there any hope for this one if Goyer gets involved? Anything you want to see from a particular Ghost Rider run? Speak up now, and maybe you can influence its pre-production.

I am not a Comic collector but my brother was and Ghost Rider was always one of his favorites. It breaks my heart how they camped up and ruined the dark, involved storylines of the comic for that atrocious movie.
If Cage does another finger-point he has doomed this property forever.

Umm no. I don't see why people are making this out to be big news. Sure, he worked on the Dark Knight, but he also wrote such gems as Jumper, and Nick Fury: Agent of Shield starring David Hasselhoff.
The first Ghost Rider was so terrible, it probably couldn't have been saved even if Goyer had been Executive Producer. Oh wait ... he WAS. Seriously, look it up.

Ghost Rider has always been my favorite super hero. Everybody seems to have a favorite b-lister and he is mine. I've got comics, wind up toys, action figures. I don't own the Ghost Rider movie. That's on purpose, so all I can do is shake my head in sadness about this news.

As long as Mark David Johnson does not come back, I'll give the movie a shot. After what he did with the first Ghost Rider and Daredevil, I have no idea how his name does not come up when talking about the worst directors in Hollywood. Worse than Michael Bay, worse than Stephen Sommers. The saddest thing about the Ghost Rider being a hit is that it will allow him to direct another disaster.

I'll start by saying nobody on the planet loves the Ghost Rider more than myself! Let's not butcher the original comic anymore. Johnny Blaze sold his soul to save Crash, Roxanne's dad, not Barton Blaze. JB liked to drink and got into bar fights. He didn't munch on jellybeans. The hellcycle was cool, (I aquired #1 of 6 made for the movie) but the motorcycle transformation thing never happened in the comicbook. It was created out of pure hellfire. The whole devil's bounty hunter thing was terrible also. Carter Slade was a illusionist, not a "Rider" (another horrible idea)
Where did Abigor, Gressil and Wallow come from? Could we please have some of the original GR villians, such as the Orb, the Enforcer, or even the Water Wizard? I would love to see anything true to the 70's-80's run. The Quentin Carnival had many great supporting characters. Somebody should get Bob Budianski involved. He was the greatest GR storywriter. I could go on all night. Just my 2 cents.
