Your First Look at the New Freddy: 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' Teaser!
Filed under: Horror, New Line, Newsstand, Movie Marketing, Remakes and Sequels, Trailers and Clips

Fittingly, Platinum Dunes' remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street popped online via MySpace Trailer Park during the witching hour, and just in time for Halloween. While it's only a teaser, it manages to pack Freddy Krueger's origin story into a few horrifying frames. You actually feel bad for the (alleged?) child molester, something that's due entirely to Jackie Earle Haley. I'm beginning to think he can make you feel sympathetic for just about anyone.
This teaser also offers us the first look at Freddy's new make-up. This has been a rather well-kept secret in these spoiler-happy days, and even at ComicCon they were being quite tight-lipped about what he was going to look like, except that it would be "more extreme" than before. You don't get a very good look at Freddy in this teaser, but I've screen-capped the close-up and ran it through Photoshop. If you don't like it, don't criticize the filmmakers too much, as I've de-shadowed and sharpened quite a bit. (I've included an unedited photo in the gallery below for those more curious.)

This is gonna be an awful comment so delete it if you feel you should. All I could think when I saw it is Michael Jackson if he was in a fire.

Yeah, Freddy was kind of a letdown, but the rest of the teaser was cool.

WTF this trailer was awesome! looks better than all the other shitty horror remakes we've been handed these past few years. Jackie Earle Haley is win, and it's awesome to see his revenge since Johnny Depp ninja'd a part from him in the original Elm street.

From what's shown, I think that it looks pretty fun. For some reason, my initial thought was, we need to see Freddy's teeth...That was part of what got me about Robert Englund's version...and the smile to go along with it, I think.
And Clancy Brown?!
Color me interested.

OOOOO...WOW. I'm a huge freddy fan and I think that no one can walk in robert englund's shoes..because he has been doing all of the nightmare on elm streets. I'm not going to dog this new guy that's playing Freddy until I get see the movie, and see what his freddy skills are looking like.

This looks less like a reimagining and more like a shot-for-shot remake. Why would anyone want that? If I want to see the glove pop out of a bathtub I'll watch the original.
This looks so... unoriginal. Which makes it completely pointless, like the Psycho remake.
No one wants a remake. We have and love the originals. We want reimaginings. This trailer fails at that.

I'm a horror movie FREAK!! I love the hell out of scary movies!! The trailer is pretty good!! I never judge a movie on who played the original character!! If that NEEDS to be done, I'll do it, AFTER I see the movie!! I can hardly wait!!

The trailer looks like it has potential to be decent, but freddie himself seems a bit of a let down. Perhaps expectations, or my rememberance as a child of the original, make it tough to recapture, but he actually looks less menacing now, 30 years later you'd think they could make him scarier, not less so. Props to Englund and the original crew!

So, if you're going to do a remake...that means hollywood is fresh out of new ideas....and we're going...no somebody else is going to buy it. I love the original and if they don't how to create (the new young film makers) ask some of the old schools how to do it. I wouldn't even boothleg this movie.
