Now You Can Dress Like a Marvel Slut for Halloween!

Move over all you "sexy" nurses and french maids, it's time to let the Marvel superheroes have a chance to slut it up and become the center of attention at whatever random Halloween party they're invited to this year. Our friends over at Comics Alliance have pointed us toward a new "Women of Marvel" line of Halloween costumes over at Disguise that may not be the most accurate in terms of representing the actual superhero costumes, but makes up for all that in terms of how much room they leave for bare skin.
Here, we'll let the folks from Disguise explain: "Inspired by some of the most well known Marvel super heroes we have created a line of fashion forward costumes for women and girls who have the desire to be fun and playful for Halloween. Who says comic books are only for boys because with great power comes great style. Great to team up with a few of your fellow super heroines to save the world."
Wait, did they just say ... "for women and girls"? Um, how about we try to persuade the "girls" not to dress up as American Dream Sassy Prestige this year and opt for something that doesn't scream one-night-stand? To each their own, but I think I agree with Comics Alliance when they said, "Look, we get that Marvel wants some of that sweet, sweet adult Halloween costume money. And we're sure these will sell to lazy costumers and/or anyone going to a "pimps and hos" party. But shouldn't a "Women of Marvel" costume line actually, you know, represent the women of Marvel? Outside of Black Cat and White Queen, these costumes are just downright lazy."
Check out some of the costumes below and let us know what you think ...

Seriously? Have you seen the big busted cleavage heroines in the comics? This is not far off from what's in them. To criticize this is ridiculous. Just take a look at Black Cat.

Exactly. These costumes are not far off at all from what the heroines actually wear in the comics...do you refer to them as super sluts as well?
the only difference is they make girl versions of some of the popular male heroes. The costumes themselves are par for the course for a superhero costume.
In case you forgot:

I'm surprised "Feminatical.com" allowed you to get away with using the word "slut".

It's probably just me, but putting up a gallery of models wearing the costumes kind of undercuts your arguement a bit.

Have you check out the local flyers of Halloween costumes as of late? A great majority of the womens costumes are slutty. Around the office watercooler last Halloween a female coworker asked: "Why do the men get all the cool costumes? Guess what women get this year? Let's see...slutty nurse, slutty maid, slutty witch.."
Now, I tend to believe - perhaps naively - that companies make costumes based on demand...I can only conclude then that women (who do dress for Halloween) actually LIKE wearing this stuff.
Is this that Megan Fox style feminism again?

Could have at least gone with sexy versions of existing female characters. There's a couple of Iconics there, like Phoenix. But I guess Rogues classic costume would be too much of a hassle for what it is.

What? No hard plastic bikini-armor Iron Woman?
Man, these guys are blowing it.
But seriously, DC has always had the Halloween advantage, with a pair of female superheroes that everybody knows. Marvel needs the gender-crossing costumes because their female properties haven't gotten enough pop-culture exposure (ahem) outside geekdom. And the movie versions we *have* gotten... well, all the X-Men looked the same, and Elektra wore satin jeans for cryin' out loud. Still, you'd think they could have at least TRIED a Storm and Elektra, or could they not get the Emma Frost Sassy Deluxe other colors?
BTW, I think your use of "slut" is overgeneralizing. Clearly the proper term for the two almost-to-the-knee "Classic" costumes is "harlot."

I'm in agreement with you. Furthermore, this is a trend. There are some major double standards regarding costuming. Why is it also that fat geek guys are allowed to sit at home in their parents' basements eating Cheetos and playing WoW, yet expect nothing less than a perfect-looking comic book girlfriend? Oh yeah. Comic books and costumes like these. This isn't 'girl power' at all...it's actually pretty demoralizing.

Couldn't a woman wear the "men's" Ghostbusters costume?
And by the way, those fat geek guys eating Cheetos and playing WoW in their parents' basement expecting nothing less than a perfect-looking comic-book girlfriend... don't have a girlfriend.
But they might be dating an avatar. Furiously.
Their loss.

Very good point about the basement nerd. I'm just pointing out that from the female perspective, the double standards permeate even a subculture which sees itself as more progressive or 'short' on females.
A woman could indeed wear the men's Ghostbusters outfit. It's just of my opinion that they offer something in between. What about having costumes which are flattering but not slut-tastic? Or costumes that are sized properly?

Asking for feminine-but-not-slutty cheapie pre-made Halloween costumes is like asking for steamed veggies at McDonald's.
Tried that, didn't sell -- and there's nothing but junk there in the first place, so to ask for junk of a particular quality is missing the sad point of the establishment's existence.
As for the double-standard... from a male perspective, the expectation to be successful AND fit AND be good in bed AND have an attractive girlfriend (or several) who's also smart and cool? it chafes us... almost as much as the mistaken impression of real-bodied females that anybody but basement-dwelling Cheetos-eating dorks believes it's socially acceptable to be a basement-dwelling Cheetos-eating dork.
"Beautiful" people can get away with wearing anything. The rest of us need to make our own costumes if we want to feel good.

Halloween = Slutoween! It's been like that for years, and it's only getting worse. What was that line from "Mean Girls"? Oh yeah: "Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it."
