Will Kristen Stewart Be 'An American Girl'?
Filed under: Drama, Casting, RumorMonger, Scripts
First things first: No, Kristen Stewart is not going to be a slightly over-aged American Girl from the famous doll series, following in the footsteps of Abigail Breslin. (Thank God -- how weird would that be?) Now, with that out of the way: Coming Soon reports that during a talk with James Woods on the Straw Dogs set, the actor mentioned a passion project he's been working on -- and Stewart is the focus of his cinematic attentions.Woods is planning to direct a film called An American Girl, with the Twilight star in the lead role. He approached her "before she was famous," professing that this was her movie, and he wouldn't make it with anyone but her. She read the script, and "has been urgently wanting to get the movie made." The Tim Metcalfe and Sean McCarthy story follows a self-destructive young woman who has turned from the swimming and diving champion of her high school to a wild child busy with booze and drugs. After a sexual tryst gets caught on a cell phone and ruins her reputation, she joins the Marines and starts to find her own inner values. She enters the Linus Program, learns Arabic, and heads overseas to work with Muslim women. (There are more details through the C.S. link.)
Woods says: "It's a phenomenal story and a slam-dunk Oscar for her." At the very least, it'd be another great step toward fighting type-casting as her Twilight stint wraps up. But what do you think? Can you imagine Stewart clutching that little, oft-desired little naked statue?

I'm very much intrigued by the plot synopsis I read over on CS, and I can't wait to see the movie.
I think it's really possible that Kristen Stewart has the talent in her to be a really great actress, but Oscar? At this point in her career? I'm a little skeptical. She might need to grow up a bit first.

Sounds boring and James Woods will do a bad job. Kristen Stewart has zero charisma or screen presence. I guess this will be another role where she stutters and twitches through the performance. I;ve had my fill of her. No more for me.

This sounds intriguing.
I think Kristen is a fine actress. I'm not entirely sure why she's so often criticized, unless such criticisms are based solely on her performances in Twilight.
I hope Wood's feature debut will rival other first time actor turned directors such as Gary Oldman (Nil By Mouth) and Tim Roth (The War Zone).

This terrible actress is one of the most over rated in the US. She never varies her performance and shows no real emotion. You never feel she becomes the character but sense every wooden movement she makes. Its like you can see the cogs working. She;s a very lucky girl but not talented. The film sounds drab and uninteresting. Wrong film at the wrong time. Worthy and dull. Stewart is very dull so its a perfect match.

How do her performances NOT vary? I mean, she plays a school aged wannabe vampire in Twilight, a bad ass rocker, guitarist, and lesbian in The Runaways, and an adolesent stripper in Welcome to the Rileys. How is this not varied? It's far from the typical cheerleader and girl next door types that girls her age do....ur complaint is baseless.

I agree with carry. Always the same roles. You only see her in movies where she plays a depressed junkie. Always with a bad mood. Where is the diffrence to her real life? Where is no. She just plays herself. There is no acting if a bitch played a bitch. It's like New York (from Flavor of Love, I love New York) would act as a bitch in a movie. She would be perfect because she's one. Every human can play himself. Where is the acting if she's not/never changing her face and just speaking monoton the lines.
I still haven't seen New Moon but i probably know why everyone thinks that she played a perfect Bella. In that movie she has to be depressed and sulky. Wow. Perfect. Kristen is always like that.
So where/when is she ever acting?

We rush in to save the day like triumphant heroes, ya? While I think Ms Stewart is pleasant enough to look at, certainly, and it may appear she's got a narrow band of emotional expression she works with, it's not her, but the subject matter itself which is too self congratulatory as well as delusional. The movie making industry keeps returning to the well of America's conflict in the middle east only to be confounded by the movie watching public's distaste for the subject. This is symptomatic of our desire as a nation to be through, with the whole dirty, bloody mess, and the politicians, as elected representatives, continue down a rogue path of aggression. I'm not naive, I know from now on we'll have to closely guard our backs, but to make glossy movies about a particularly unfortunate period of our history, is distasteful.

two things:
1. Stewart needs to lay off the weed.
2. Woods is just using this as an angle to work with because he wants to sleep with her. he's infamous for parading eye candy three decades his junior on his arm.

Well, at least I don't feel as bad about beginning a career as a writer\director to get a gorgeous woman an Oscar.
She's so GOOD she deserves it. (hint, hint)
@Justin:
Well, if Woods is smart he knows that will get him more than one woman. It's gotta be about the film.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy to see that SOMEONE has their head screwed on straight! Her performances are so wooden, it drives me insane that people like her so much just because she's in Twilight (which, for the record, isn't even worth all the hype it gets). The Twi-hards can contradict me if they want, but that doesn't change the fact that it's the truth.
