Kristen Stewart Bites
Filed under: Fandom, Trailers and Clips
Her boyfriend bites necks, so why shouldn't she have a nibble too? Kristen Stewart first came to mainstream attention with her role as Jodie Foster's daughter in David Fincher's Panic Room in 2002, though she had a nice, small part in Rose Troche's The Safety of Objects and really hit a home run with Jessica Sharzer's superb, underseen Speak in 2004. But it wasn't until she landed the coveted role of Bella Swan in Twilight that everyone started paying attention. Maybe a little too much attention, as evidenced by the video posted after the jump (courtesy of College Humor). In the video, Stewart's proclivity for biting her own lower lip has been highlighted. And the conclusion is ... she does it a lot, at least in Twilight and Adventureland, which seem to be the two movies that the clips have been drawn from. To be honest, it's a little creepy to see such attention paid to the lips of a 19-year-old actress, and a little unfair to her thespian abilities, but it is funny that, once you notice a quirk, it's hard to ignore.
Stewart has been able to strike a good balance between roles in independent movies and studio productions. Sure, The Twilight Saga: New Moon awaits release on November 21, but so does Welcome to the Rileys, in which she plays a stripper / prostitute, a "really broken, damaged little kid," as she told Cinematical last year. And she'll be Joan Jett in the forthcoming biopic The Runaways. Will she still be biting her lip in those movies? Time will tell.

You mean to tell me you don't automatically think of Neve Campbell's annoying little quirk of sighing, looking away and looking back, and squinting her eyes in the same fashion every time she is supposed to be flustered about something in a heated discussion with another character.

This story is really reaching. Biting lips in two films makes headlines.

For Twilight, in the books it always mentions Bella biting her lip, so of course in the movie she is going to do that too.

I dont see what the big deal is. If anybody here does, I suggest you stop blogging and take up a career in acting so that everybody else can analyze all your obsecure habits and tics.

In "Adventureland" she was constantly running her hands through her hair. It drove me crazy! Didn't notice the lip biting thing, though. That's not as irritating.

Everyone has odd quirks, big deal. Mickey Rourke puts his forefinger on his lip when making a point, seen him do it in all his movies.

What we are seeing is NOT acting. It is a shallow attempt at acting, what I call re-acting. A TRUE actor is able to create a character that breathes on its own, not with the borrowed bag of tricks of the actor portraying it. And of the multitudes of so-called 'celebrities' calling themselves 'actors' perhaps a half dozen actually are. Of those, Phillip Seymore Hoffman, Johnny Depp, Glenn Close and Sir Anthony Hopkins come to mind. Next!

Wow, judge much? Doubt you could do a better job than any of these "so called actors". I really hate twilight, but when Kristen Stuart was in "Speak" she did a beautiful job. She's famous... and you're not, so she must be doing something right.

I definitely agree with the original post, but you forgot Denzel Washington, Jack Nicholson, Ryan Gosling, the Gyllenhaals. There are plenty of actors out there who practice the art of acting ... and to Tommygirl or whatever. Are we supposed to be impressed by the "talents" of Paul Walker, Jessica Alba, Denise Richardson, etc. Fame does not and should not automatically translate to greatness. It's pretty ridiculous that we idolize these people simply for being purty. That's not to say that they're bad people or anything. I'd be doing the same thing if I was spectacularly good-looking. I'm just saying I don't spray my jeans for someone just cause they're on the tele-box.

Dear Tommygirl. As a 30+ year veteran of the entertainment industry, yes, I can, and do- judge. As a writer, director, actor, book writer, stagehand, artist and other minor attributes, I do in fact do better. What you are confusing as 'talent' is merely a brilliant job of editing after a myriad of takes on a movie set. Which, is, I am certain, a place you have never been near, nor would you be allowed to, for your slavering and grovelling over the stars would become a nuisance. Regarding most 'actors' the movie "My favorite year" said it best. " I am not an actor, I am a MOVIE STAR!".

You are certainly right Bree. In the books Bella is always bitting her lips. Most people dont realize this because they don't read the book. They just watch the movie and think that they know all about what happenes in the book.
