The Breakdown on 'Paranormal Activity's Different Versions
Filed under: Horror, Paramount
Well, congrats are in order to Paramount for slyly marketing its low-budget pick-up, Paranormal Activity, to bona fide box office success with $7.1 million on a mere 159 screens, with a wider release still to come. But many of the fans savvy enough to seek it out are by now aware that Activity's ending wasn't always as it stands now. In fact, the film runs about ten minutes shorter between its late '07/early '08 festival screenings and its current cut.
So, to answer the questions that I and others fortunate enough to have seen the original version have been fielding, we'll be taking a look at as many differences as we can remember between the two, not to mention the further rumblings of what was different in test screenings for the film.
Naturally, this means spoilers. I know, it says as much right there in the headline, but for the sake of covering our butts, let's make this clear: a spoiler warning for everything that follows.
There, that ought to do it. Now click here for the full report at Horror Squad.

This movie is AMAZING. I do not scare easily, and I caught myself schreaking a few times....LOUDLY. Blair witch was nothing. This movie will be the topic of conversation for a long time to come. Great acting, no down time in action, even comical at times. I will be going back to see again, its just that good!!

How can so many people be so duped by such a transparent, uninspired marketing campaign? I saw P.A. last weekend at a midnight screening at L.A.'s Arclight Theater and found it to be one of the most boring, uninteresting and least-scary horror films I've seen in years.
It's telling that Paramount isn't releasing ANY clips from the film to review shows (such as "At the Movies"), but rather having them just show the same, tired trailer again with the "terrified" and "genuine" audience reactions shot in night-vision. Really, how genuine are the reactions of an audience that knows they're being filmed for marketing purposes?
To quote the immortal words of a Mr. J. Rotten, "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated??".

I don't understand why the movie blogs, as a whole, are already making spoiler talk about a movie that hasn't been (officially) released yet. Don't you think you guys should wait until it get a proper release this weekend? I'm having a hard time avoiding spoilers, and like 95% of the free world, the movie doesn't open in my market for another few days.
This is the first time I've ever seen the blogs do this. Usually they lay off the spoiler discussions until after the movie is released.

I think the movie is available in something like 46 cities right now, so it's pretty available to the general public.
I liked being able to read bout the different versions of the film. I wouldn't want to wait a few weeks because I'd forget about it by then.
