'The Crow' Remake Prepares To Take Flight

Last December, many Goths wept and fans of the late Brandon Lee took to message boards all over our great Internet to protest Stephen Norrington's remake of The Crow. News on the project has been so scarce that you've probably forgotten all about it, or even assumed it was dead and buried. But like its supernatural character, Norrington's Crow is alive and flying and Comics2Film is reporting that Norrington's script has been "very well received" by Relativity Media, and the film is set to go forward with casting. Cue the angry rants. While the news sparked a lot of angry comments, there were a few fans of James O'Barr's graphic novel who wanted to see a new adaptation that might stay truer to the book. But earlier this summer, Comics2Film ran a rumor that Norrington wasn't going to use the character of Eric Draven, but was inventing a completely new character and storyline for his remake / reboot. Let me stress that little item hasn't been confirmed, but if it's true, it certainly raises the question of "Why bother?" O'Barr fans want their guiding crow and self-mutilation back.
At this point, all we know is that Norrington is aiming to make it "realistic, hard-edged and mysterious, almost documentary-style." Now that I've seen more of the graphic novel (thanks, Google Images), I can't think of a poorer approach to something so deliberately introspective. But who knows? If it's truly a whole new character who just happens to have a crow as a pal, the shaky-cam approach might work just fine.

I'm going to stay in the "this is a bad idea" camp. Actually, with the new direction, it's a combination of a number of bad ideas. Why even call it the Crow?

The first one is by far one of my most favorite movies of all time and to see them remake it pisses me off but then again, they're remaking everything so I knew this was bound to happen.
All I can say is I see "The Crow: City Of Angels" happening all over again.

if it's true that he's inventing a completely new character and storyline can it really be a remake / reboot?
wouldn't it just be another sequel, The Crow IV in jiggle vision?

1) IF it turns out the "new character/situation" rumor is true, don't call it a reboot. Call it what it is, Crow 5, and I'm not really interested in a Crow 5.
2) if it is Eric Draven and an adaption that stays closer to the graphic novel, while I don't think it's the greatest idea, I'll admit, I'm curious. A "documentary" style approach could be interesting and I refuse to outright dismiss it without seeing any footage. I'd be willing to give at least one viewing.
All that being said, it could be the greatest thing or the worst thing ever, and it will not change the fact that I still have the Brandon Lee version sitting on the shelf, available to watch and love whenever I want.

C'mon... it's gonna be a Stephen Norrington movie. There you go. How "good" do you think it could possibly be? If "good" is the sun, Norrington's out there drifting around beyond Pluto in the Oort Cloud. That's how "good" it'll be! Stephen Norrington, the only director to have been literally bitch-slapped by an 80 year old Sean Connery.
