UPDATE: 'Mad Max 4' Ready to Roll ... Now with Sam Worthington?
It remains to be seen what Mad Max fans will think, but the businesses of Australia are excited that work on Mad Max 4: Fury Road will begin immediately, according to a story today in the Daily Telegraph. There is no confirmation as to who will be starring in the film, but it will most likely not be Mel Gibson. The likeliest candidate as of now is Sam Worthington (Terminator: Salvation) (not Tom Hardy), with Charlize Theron as the leading lady. Original Mad Max director George Miller -- who most recently gave us Happy Feet -- will once again helm.Either way, the locals are thrilled. Some of the locations used on the previous three films, Mad Max (1979), Mad Max 2 (a.k.a. The Road Warrior) (1981) and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985), have become local attractions. The owner of one such attraction, the Silverton Hotel, said, (insert Australian accent here): "This is bloody huge. Absolutely magnificent. Silverton depends on the film industry, it survives on the film industry, and if Mad Max is going to be filmed here it's going to be just tremendous."
The production is expected to provide more than 500 local jobs and funnel tens of millions of dollars into the local economy. Pre-production begins immediately, with shooting scheduled to begin next year.
UPDATE: Watch a video after the jump of director George Miller introducing some of the vehicles being used in the new Mad Max movie, as well as addressing some of the casting rumors. According to the man himself, nothing is definitive yet and he still has a lot more people to see.

Wasn't very impressed with Worthington in Terminator, so if this casting pans out consider me disappointed.

The more movies he's in, the less I'll be able to stand him.

This is Fantastic News! Everyone should have faith in George Miller. He is one of the greatest Australian Director's of all time. George Miller is the father of Mad Max. Sam Worthington would make a great Max or son of Max. Just remember that this film was originally going to shoot oversea's and now shooting on Aussie turf is not only great news our Aussie actors but for our film industry and economy. The turning point for Australian films has finally begun. To go back to Broken Hill and shoot some of the film there will really help the local economy and will give us all a sense of Deja Vu. Yesterday I purchased the book 'Man On Fire' all about the life of Mad Max stuntman Grant Page and today I wake up hearing that 'Fury Road' is a go. Hopefully Page will be involved in the film in some way. Rev those engines, look in your rear vision mirror, a storm is coming and his name is MAD MAX. I say to George Miller, the late Byron Kennedy would be very proud.

I totally disagree. Sam Worthington would be perfect as Max. Stick Eric Bana in there as well. He's already a big Mad Max fan.

Jeremy Renner, Jeremy Renner and Jeremy Renner are my three top picks to become the new MAD MAX....
....though perhaps Jeremy Renner may suffice if it came down to a choice between him and Jeremy Renner.

Worthington was something of a saving grace in Terminator. A relatively unknown actor who made a new character who I was honestly sad to see killed off in the film, especially as there is now likely to be another Terminator film.
As for him as Mad Max, I think its an inspired choice. He has much the same look in the face as Gibson but also all the youth able to pull off the movie. I think if the plan was to have anyone but Gibson they couldn't have done better.

Agree with Ben. Sam Worthington is a good choice.
Sam Worthington and his Marcus storyline were the most enjoyable in Terminator. (Christian Bale's storyline was definitely weaker in comparison... pet peeve: ok ok, we get it, John Connor is a great hero... now show me why! For the amount of times other characters reminded us how great Connor was, the only thing he seemed to do was yell).
I'm more skeptical that a new Mad Max will do the series any justice and if George Miller is up to making a cutting edge film that adds to the genre. The genre has progressed a long way since 1979.

Why not contact Kennedy Miller Mitchell in Sydney, Australia directly?
Hopefully, speak to George Miller or his rep in person, or at least
send him your bio, headshot and demo reel for his attention.
Better still, if in Australia already, turn up at his office and hand your stuff to him.
He may actually appreciate a direct, pro-active approach like this.
There are going to be hundreds of roles going, who's to say you won't get one?
