One Villain Only (?) for 'Spider-Man 4' -- Yes, it's The Lizard
Filed under: Action, Sony, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
So here's some "less is more" comic book flick news* that may make you feel a little better about Spider-Man 4: Apparently A) there will be only one villain, which would be great, and B) that villain will (finally!) be Curt Connors aka The Lizard. And here's the best part: We don't have to wait for some gimmicky casting ploy, because the franchise already has the excellent Dylan Baker playing the role! Yes, Peter Parker's one-armed college professor will, after waiting patiently through three villain-packed films, get to shed his humanity and terrorize our favorite web-slinger with cold-blooded reptility. (Reptileness?)Both MarketSaw and Collider have more information, but of course details are very sketchy at this early point. If these early reports are true, I offer a back-pat to Sam Raimi and his writing / producing team for trying to scale the next sequel back a bit, instead of trying to wedge six baddies into the flick just to sell a few extra Happy Meals. It's safe to assume that Mr. Raimi considers Spider-Man 3 the weakest of the series, and if the new goal is to simply deliver an old-school mano e mano face-off between a man-spider and a man-lizard, well I'm just fine with that.
Odds are you'll see more Spider-Man 4 news at this very website as it becomes available.
*MarketSaw.com seems pretty confident that their source is accurate on this information, but of course we should take it all with a grain of salt until we get word from someone on the production team, and on the record.

Conners was mentioned in Spider-man 1 but was only in Spider-man 2 and 3. But I think you counted that first one anyway. And Lizard for some reason, seems weirder than an alien symbiote.....ok, maybe not

OK, when I say this I am saying this as someone who is not the biggest Spiderman expert in the world, more of a DC guy, however, unless it's directed by Steven Spielberg, I find it hard to get excited about a movie in which the main villain is a giant lizard.

Rent the original cartoon on DVD. It had a couple of good Lizard stories that might change your mind.

Sony is actually going to let their next $200 million blockbuster be dependent on an actor that is only known for some acting roles on television?
I wouldn't be surprised if he turned into a CG character within the first 20-30 minutes of the movie.

Jay, you must be one of the few people left on Earth who have not yet seen Trick r' Treat, in which Dylan Baker was pretty freakin' excellent. In fact, it's probably his performance in that movie that has Raimi convinced he can carry the Lizard role. Dylan Baker is now officially a favorite of genre fanboys everywhere.

You don't think they will recast Dr. Conners?
They did it to Billy Dee Williams in the Batman Franchise, and more recently Terrence Howard in Iron Man...
I would be shocked (and pleasantly surprised) if they actually stuck with Dylan Baker

It's entirely possible but since this isn't a reboot, it's not likely.
Of course Harvey Dent was recast, everyone had been recast by the time Dent returned to the series.
And Terence Howard was recast because he wanted too much money to return as Rhodey. And thank god, because he is such an ass, Don Cheadle is so much better.
Spider-Man has been pretty good on the character continuity, and Baker's has confirmed he will return as Connors for the movie, I'm pretty sure.

no offense to the Lizard/D. Baker fanboys, i'd rather seem them do the Kraven's Last Hunt storyline.
Spider-Man buried alive? yes, please.

Why not, when has anyone stopped a movie from happening simply because we don't like it or it's preposterous. I will never complain of another film, I will just sit here and take it!!!! Ok, maybe if Shia Labouf plays Spidey in the next one, then I will take to the streets...
