So Here's That 'Paranormal Activity' Ending You Didn't See

I know, you might be bordering on a Paranormal Activity overdose at this point. It's been slowly rolling out for weeks, every person in America is talking about it, and it so totally scared your best friend, but certainly not you. Well, as you likely know, what is currently playing in theaters is not the original ending to Oren Peli's haunted house triumph. In fact, the new theatrical cut features an ending suggested by Steven Spielberg.
The original ending, as detailed here by our own William Goss, hasn't played in theaters for over a year and a half, but now that the film is king of the demonic world, someone has provided the service of actually putting the alternate ending online. This is actually just one of several endings, as explained in our interview with the director, but until the far-off DVD of the film is released, this is the only way you're going to see it. And I kind of have a feeling that may not be the case for long, so catch it while you can over at Horror Squad!

How is the new ending better than the original? Oh cause Spielberg said so! what??? I think the new ending is waaaaay Hollywood-ized!! SHE DOES THE WHOLE LOOK AT THE CAMERA AND GO AT IT WHILE THE FACE CHANGES THING!!! How many times have horror movies done that exact same thing! I think Spielberg needs to stick to nuking the fridge and leave the horror movies to horror directors! I personally would like to see the one where she cuts her own throat after throwing him at the camera that would be a good shock and scare too.

Yeah.
With the exception of the face morphing element, I REALLY prefer the theatrical ending. The original ending certainly feels more honest, but the theatrical ending gives the film a slight twist with the way they thank both families in the beginning.
I think the original ending is too long of a denouement for a "found footage". It becomes too stagey, and you've given me too long to remember it's not real footage. Even the logic feels off (really you can record A/V for a whole day?).

I have watched the original version. It was less scary than the new version but at least it could still give me some creeps.
The original version's ending did not involve Micah's body being thrown at the camera, but instead featured Katie returning to the bedroom, after the struggle heard downstairs, wielding a knife with blood on her tank top. She then sits next to the bed and rocks back and forth in a catatonic state throughout the remainder of the following day. Her friend Amber calls the house, and later arrives, discovering Micah's body downstairs. When police officers arrive, Katie comes out of her catatonic state and confused, approaches them. The officers instruct her to drop the knife, but shoot her after being startled by a door suddenly slamming behind them. The movie ends with audio of the police discovering the camera as the credits roll.
The original cut also included an extended scene involving internet video footage of a possessed girl (whose story on the internet was read by Micah) chewing off her own arm.
