The First Trailer For Disney's 'The Prince of Persia'!

After so much hype surrounding the casting and a handful of beefy stills, the trailer for Disney's The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is finally here, and we have it courtesy of IGN. From the comments left on Todd's preview of the trailer, I know you've been as eager to see its swashbuckling as we have.
It really looks like Jerry Bruckheimer and Mike Newell have taken the best of Pirates of the Caribbean, and employing it here. The costumes and sets are lush and exotic, the cast is gorgeous, there's plenty of crazy action sequences, and the special effects look as solid as golden sands of time can look. My only issue with it is that we only see a few glimpses of wit and fun. Part of what made Pirates so enjoyable was the chemistry and dialogue, and a cast that seemed to be relishing every moment it spent swashbuckling. There was a healthy sense of the ridiculous inherent in it. Everyone in Persia seems to be taking magical daggers, destines, and demons very, very seriously and such earnestness can be offputting for an audience who wants to be transported. Luckily, there's some promising flickers of humor at the end of the trailer (Do jokes about body searches ever get old? Not if they're delivered with the right twinkle in the eye.), and I hope it's a sign that it's not going to be grim and humorless stuff.
Check out the trailer below the jump, and let us know what you think. Thanks again to IGN for the embed.

Too much flourish if that makes any sense, like many of Bruckheimer films. It didn't have enough human elements or plot to it except the girl spouting facts about the knife or the tower which was just over my head. I did like the pirates series and thought it ended on a somewhat sour note but none the less I will have my eyes on this film/

Hey Liz, that embed is the video preview not the actual trailer.
Aside from the whitewashed casting, it does look like a nice adventure romp.

I'm sorry, but I just can't take Jake Gyllenhaal, aka Homer Hickham/Robert Graysmith/Donnie Darko seriously as a high flying, somersaulting prince of cool. Good actor, laughable role. And don't even get me started on that hair...

As a fan of the games, I like it. It looks like it captures the spirit of the games while not getting too bogged down in trying to replicate the plot.Love Jake Gyllenhall, even if his hair is a bit silly here... Looks like it should have a decent sense of humor and not take itself too seriously, and it looks like it will have some decent action sequences. It reminds me a lot of the Pirates films (as it should), and that should equate to a fun time at the movies.

Looks exactly how i would expect it to look. Goofy at times with some good effects. Hey all i can say is if it has a ton of big CGI effects and a halfway good story it will be the best videogame movie I'VE EVER SEEN( right now silent hill is the best i can think of). Which still isn't saying much. I hope it makes a shit ton of money cause then we might start getting GOOD videogame movies! Give HALO and GOD OF WAR some budgets, an R rating, good handlers, and some kick ass story and we might have what Spiderman started doing for Marvel then start a new trend of GREAT videogame movies. You never know.

Am I missing something here? That is not the trailer. Maybe IGN switched the video on you guys?
That video just talks about the movie while showing clips from the video game. There are also a couple of stills from the movie, but no trailer.

I have to say Jake still looks completely goofy as the prince. I mean, how hard is it to find a competent actor who at least looks ethnic? That said the rest of the casting looks good and the action sequences look like a lot of fun. I think this could be the movie to finally motivate the film industry to take video game movies seriously.

I saw this trailer yesterday, and while the look of the film is good and similar to the feel of the games. I just can't pull myself to like it enough and I think im going to skip out of this one. My main problem is JG looks like a serious Joke as the prince, like he just through a wig on and a bristish accent lol. Then coming from a fan of the game, the plot so far from what I could piece together makes no sense, but maybe the second trailer will go into more depth on that. But I still havent seen Pirates of the C3 to this day, maybe one day Ill watch those two together back to back lol.
