Michael Bay on 'Transformers 3': Less Action, More Emotion

I didn't think it was possible for any movie to be too big for Michael Bay, especially not a Transformers movie. But judging from this candid DVD extra, even Bay thinks Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen veered on excessive, and he's promising to scale back when he tackles #3. As we speak, Bay is combing through the Transformers lore that Hasbro has sent him and pondering who or what will be smashing crap up in another installment. Just the way he says "Transformers lore" makes me want a story centered on Bay exploring ancient catacombs to uncover the missing Transformers arcana with Megan Fox as his sidekick. (She'll be packing a Ph.D in Hasbro lore because she's not afraid to be smart and sexy.)
As Bay ponders how to go sideways from Revenge (his words, not mine), he does have a few ideas in mind. He wants more Bumblebee, and to explore the powerful relationship he has with Sam. He wants more characters, and more emotion. He wants it to be "more undercover" and "less exposed" which might be difficult for our transforming pals when they destroyed the Great Pyramid of Giza.
At the end of the video, Bay decides to abandon plot ideas and offer a cash reward. Then he says "Just joking!" because come on, the man has to eat, and Fallen didn't make a kajillion dollars, just a few hundred million. However, maybe a few of you more skilled in Transformers lore than he is can make use of the address, and write him with what you want to see in #3.
Check out the video of slippery promises below the jump.

I had assumed that these 'stories' were computer generated.
Like Clippy pops up and says 'It looks like you're trying to write an nonsensical script for an unnecessary sequel, would you like to run 'Script Wizard'?"

Weird.
First time I've actually heard his voice.
Expected it....to be deeper? I guess?
I always expect him to be like, the ultimate XYY male dude-bro.
Pfft.
I could take him.

The problem with Transformers 2 wasn't that it had too much action, it was that the story was not logical. It was as if a 12-year-old boy had written it. Switching to a 12-year-old girl's perspective is not the solution.
Bay's "thinking" is flawed. He shouldn't be thinking about the story at all, he should be hiring a good writer and allowing them to raise his game.

I so wish JJ Abrams was doing this film. :\ What is this obsession with Bumblebee? Will he conveniently lose his voice in the third film as well?

Ummmmm....Can someone explain to Bay that Transformers were successful due to the action and emotions really don't have a place?

Bay made Transformers into a loud piece of glossy crap to sell to kids. Terrible dialogue. Over the top cartoon violence. Fart and pee jokes everywhere. There is no "global" view of the Transformers and their affect on the world. Just Shia and Megan. Shia and Megan. Shia and Megan.
If only a better director had taken over the franchise to make it a classic *sighs* . Now it just goes down in movie history alongside Godzilla.

The movie made a few hundred million? Where did this author get the info from? No. It has made so far, 833.2 million dollars. It's going to make a lot more too since the holiday season is upon us so, I suspect it'll make over a BILLION come January 1st.

I cannot believe this. I'm embarassed for the US that this was the #1 movie for some time when it came out.
I'm all for turning your brain off for mindless action, but the action scenes were not even well done!
Please, stop Bay from making these movies and further embarassing America!

It cannot be repeated too often: Transformers is not about emotion, dialogue or enlightening story-telling. It is about action and as such it was highly entertaining and I am looking forward to #3!

Pay me to write the script, i'll kick your arse Bay!
If you want emotion the go with the same route that transformers the animated movie went. The power of 80's power rock makes that film one of the greatest animated adventures ever. Superb action and a progressive story even though it randomly shifts to places like the junkion planet and the quintisons, which are awesome set pieces by the way.
Seriously if noone has seen it then go watch it, it far surpasses both the live action films, which i do enjoy even though i dont feel they are as good as they should be and filled with jumping and inconsistency.
One Word.. Unicron... The biggest badass of them all, the guy crunches cybertrons moons has a brilliant ominous accompanying soundtrack like the shark from jaws and is just dealt with in the right light for his character. He is the demon of the transformer universe and deserves to be handled with extreme care and not just blundered into another sequal. If you do use him and the Dinobots then please take care Bay and do them all justice.
Unicron should not attack Earth, he should be attacking Cybertron, the Dinobots need to be created by the autobots as something to stand up to the power of the decepticons, but keep them stupid and grimlock as dumb comedy.. 'Grimlok knows what he does!!' classic episodes like Call of the Primatives are what Bay should be looking at for referance material. In that episode we also discover that Unicron was fashioned, not just a random being that chases omega prime.
Please please please Bay do it right and dont be ashamed to ask for help to make it what it truely deserves to be, not just a popcorn chewing action summer blockbuster but a progressive, highly driven, emotional, hairs standing on the back of your neck kind of jaunt it needs to be. I fits your last thne finish on a high note!
