There is a '2012' Sequel Already in the Works ... Sorta
Filed under: Action, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sony

Watching the trailer for 2012 I couldn't help but get the feeling that Roland Emmerich was trying to tell me something. There was a lot of camera shaking and screaming and really big objects rolling over, but I think it was seeing the entire state of California lift into the air like the climax of Titanic before sinking into the depths of the Pacific ocean: Roland Emmerich hates civilization. Sure, 2012 is bound to be full of roaring musical cues that signal the triumphant survival of a tiny, tiny percentage of people on Earth, but I think it's pretty clear that his movie is going to literally rip our world apart at the seams.
But apparently that's not all that big of a deal, because Emmerich has revealed to Entertainment Weekly that a sequel to 2012 is already being plotted. Yes, a sequel to the end of the world; kind of redefines the whole 'end' part of his film's synopsis. Tentatively titled 2013, he tells EW that the follow up to his story won't be a film, but rather a television show:
"It is about the resettling of Earth. That is very, very fascinating. (2012 writer/producer) Harald Kloser and I came up with the idea and we have the luxury of having a producer on the film who is a big TV producer, Mark Gordon. We said to Mark, 'Why don't you do a TV show that picks up where the movie leaves off and call it 2013?' I think it will focus on a group of people who survived but not on the boats ... maybe they were on a piece of land that was spared or one that became an island in the process of the crust moving. There are so many possibilities of what they could do and I'd be excited to watch it."
So, uh, spoiler alert: not everyone dies in the apocalypse. Way to blow that call, Mayans. I've totally lost faith in your wildly misinterpreted predictions.
There's no network set yet, but Mark Gordon is a producer on ABC's "Private Practice" and "Grey's Anatomy," so one would assume that's where they'll pitch the show. And with the mild success of newbie sci-fi shows "FlashForward" and the massive success of the pilot episode of "V", it's quite possible that ABC will hedge their ratings bet with yet another sci-fi show (albeit one without much science).
Oh, and if you're looking for a spared piece of land, Mr. Emmerich, I believe Saudi Arabia has a spot that escaped your apocalypse.

What a pitch. Lost at Kaaba. All what´s left of the human race is a bunch of pilgrims and a black monolith. Then one of the pilgrims realizes how to use a bone as a weapon...

Yeah, just two groups of people left: A small group of surviving Muslim hajis on a tiny island, in the middle of which sits the Kaaba, like a lone palm tree on an island in an old one-panel newspaper comic. Also surviving, a small group of Hasidim in a wooden boat with a few animals, including a giraffe with its head and upper neck poking out through a conveniently sawn hole in the roof. "Ehh, Moses did the same thing way back when, good thing we kept the plans." So anyway, the Jews dock on the island and the two disparate groups come face to face... and of course immediately start killing each other! History reboots.

It had relatively nothing to do with the topic, but just the mention of that "sci-fi" show makes me really angry. SOMEBODY BRING BACK FIREFLY ALREADY!!! WE'RE LANGUISHING IN MEDIOCRITY!!!!

If John Cusack is on board, so am I. If not, then send it to the depths of hell where it belongs.

Margaret Attwood has this covered with her books " ORAK and CRAKE" and AFTER THE FLOOD".
End of the world is interesting but recovery is fastenating.
TIGER LILLIES , "CRACK OF DOOM" is a great end of the world song.

Hello! 12/21/12 is NOT the end of the world. It is just the end of a cycle. An ending that will see drastic changes in, if not the complete obliteration of our modern civilization. T6he end of civilization as we know it doesn't mean that the Earth is going bye bye too. It's just arrogant ego of mankind to believe that if we die the world will end too.

I found the Sarah Palin/Michele Bachmann sex tape.
Not really.
Don't you hate the hackers who solicit business under such names as AgelessMingle.com and others of their ilk. Let's keep them out of the comments.

It appears that a somewhat large number of people survive in Tsunami proof ships, not space ships like I had heard earlier.
Why couldn't they build more of these ships in the three years they had? If the world's labor force had got together on this project, perhaps everyone could have been saved. one billion people working as much as 16 hours a day can do a LOT in three years.Sure, they might have broken a few labor laws, but who cares? If they fail they die!
