Johnny Depp to Bail Out Nicolas Cage?

To further prove that people with lots of money still care about people who used to have lots of money, The Daily Express reports that Johnny Depp may help bail actor Nicolas Cage out of his growing financial problems. Cage, as you may or may not know, is in some serious debt. He's already had two of his homes go into foreclosure, he owes something like $6 million in back taxes and he's currently suing his former business manager for $20 million claiming he sent "him down a path toward financial ruin."
Now, though, things may be looking up for Cage as Depp could be coming to his rescue. The Daily Express says that Depp has contacted Cage and told him not to worry, that he'll sort everything out. Why Depp, you ask? Isn't that sorta random? What, was Depp a big fan of Con Air or something? Actually, no -- Depp feels like he owes his career to Cage in a way since Cage reportedly recommended Depp to his agent wayyy back in the day when Depp was a struggling musician. The story goes that Cage's recommendation led to Depp nabbing a role in the original Nightmare on Elm Street (his first), and the rest is history.
So, is Johnny Depp really going to pony up some crazy cash to bail Nicolas Cage out of trouble? And can Hollywood somehow find a way to turn that into a movie with both power actors starring opposite one another? And would you go to see it?

Sounds like it could be another cheesy Nic Cage movie.

I beg to differ....
I have to say Nicolas and Johnny would make a great duo. I cannot see them not playing their cards right. I would have to say they are quite capable of a Supernatural adventure knock-out. The problem would be narrowing down the amount of excitement one movie can contain. Granted I am far from having viewed all movies the both have been in, it's who they are in their lives and careers that results in a highly-potential classic. I find it a difficult task to grasp what movies are already in the making and what is to come (along with the spontaneous?) Cheers! Lynn lpetosk@att.net

I actually thought the exact opposite. What if Depp drags Cage out of the mediocre tailspin he's been, a la Tarantino helping out Travolta. A dark, understated role is what he needs and Cage's current financial woes might be enough to bring that out in him. Either that or we can expect 5 years of shlock before he hits oblivion.

I see your point, but just want to add I sense a big hit (or two) will smooth things out financially and creatively for Cage. Friends do help out friends in need - even famous typos. They have honor and respect for one another; they know each others' dark and lighter sides. I am not ready to see either one drop out of the motion pictures, albeit Mr.Cage is heavy into his producing projects.

Well, movie aside, that's a pretty unbelievably stand-up thing to do if he goes through with it. I know he's Johnny Depp, but we're still talking about a couple of million dollars to just be throwing at somebody-friend or not. He's under no obligation, but that sure makes me respect Depp as a man a lot more.

According to Cage's reps there is no truth to this story. And anyway, I don't think Depp thinks he owes Cage anyway. All Cage did was make an introduction. Depp did everything else on his own.

I thought the story was that Depp gave a ride to Jackie Earl Haley to audition for Nightmare and ended up auditioning and getting the part himself?

I think the Cage story is more accurate than the Jackie story because on the Nightmare commentary Wes Craven talks about Depp going over his lines obsessively between takes with Cage during fiming. But Cage didn't get him the job, just the intro to the agent & an audition. Craven says he was going to pick someone else but his daughter told him to pick Johnny because he was so dreamy!

Nicholas Cage, like many Americans doesn't know when to stop spending. Now we are a Nation drowning in foreclosures and repossessions (see http://www.repofinder.com). It must be bad when even Nicholas Cage goes broke.

It's wonderful of Johnny to remember if anyone helped him out in some way. However, I don't think millions of dollars of debt is the real obligation.

If there is any truth in the reported wasteful and senseless things that Mr. Cage purchased why would anyone bail him out? Why does anyone person need several houses that obviously isn't making him any money monthly. Why does a person need a $500,000 sports car that already cost more then $125 or 150 thousand to purchase stock. How many toys does want man need before it just becomes B.S and down right greed. I have the greatest respect for Mr.Cage's acting ability. I think he is great at his craft. His ability to manage or over see someone managing his money was fool hardy at best. In the military we have a saying trust but always verify. that could never be truer then with money. This is for all those actors who have all the bling, numerous houses and cars. No one but fools are impressed because it here and could be gone tomorrow. Think about all the shoe, homeless, starving, and jobless people in this country. Do you really need all that foolness that you buy. How much can you take with you when you leave this world?

OK !! Did you earn Mr Cages money? Did you give to all the charities that Nicholis Cage gave to? He earned the money & what he does is his business!! The only fault I see is trusting
some crook to handle his affairs!! Everyone needs to have
some one looking over their shoulder.
Thanks

Why feel sorry for someone that has (or had) the world by the ass and throws it away...I say don't do it Johnny. Everyone I know has to get up, go to work, and pay their taxes. If Cage can't handle the responcability of making so much money...Who cares, The average Joe doesn't pay his taxes, he goes to jail...So BYE BYE BIRDIE.
