'Sex and the City 2' Spoilers Reveal a Whole Different World?
Filed under: Comedy, Drama, Romance, RumorMonger
When Sex and the City was on television, they tried to balance opulence with frugal flavah. Charlotte was buying a share in the Hamptons, but it meant that she couldn't buy shoes from the likes of James Urbaniak. Samantha had a great job, but still had to shop around for a home she could afford. Miranda had to move to Brooklyn to buy enough space for her family. And Carrie, she had all sorts of financial woes from credit cards cut in front of her to almost losing her apartment when the building went co-op. But when they hit the big screen, all fiscal responsibility flew out the window. On the cusp of the economic collapse, the Sex and the City ladies were reveling in lavish lifestyles, spending thousands on this or that, not seeming to have a money-related care in the world. But with tighter times, it looks like the sequel might be going overboard in the other direction.
Hit the jump for the latest spoilers hitting the rounds.
According to Ace Showbiz, an Israeli paper -- Yedioth Ahronoth -- scored a copy of the Sex and the City 2 script and it's confirming the earlier rumors from April, the ones that say that everyone will be hurting this time around. Broken down by character:
Carrie: Her marriage to Big is put to the test when a financial scam makes them lose everything. Big has to grab a job in London, living in a "rundown apartment," and ends up cheating on Carrie, who gives him the axe before finding out she's with baby.
Samantha: She's back with Smith Jerrod, but has to "downgrade her glam lifestyle."
Miranda: She quits the practice she worked so hard for after getting sued, which prompts her to open a restaurant with Steve.
Charlotte: Nothing is said, so I assume that means status quo.
What happened to balance? Yes, big screen means bigger drama, but let's be rational: the first film was super-opulent and super successful. Way to alienate the audience. Sure, reigning in the cash is a good thing, but now they've jettisoned to the other side of the spectrum, ignoring that little thing called moderation. Sex and the City isn't pitch-perfect, Oscar-calibre filmmaking; it's entertainment. And who wants their entertainment to be a few hours of more financial woe?

Ugh...don't like these storylines at all. Carrie being pregnant...Miranda not being a lawyer anymore...

How did I miss Doc Venture in Sex in the City?! This must be amended.
And ew. New movie sounds awful. It's like they're going for all the chick flick supposed aspirational cliches instead of sticking to their personalities. Miranda's leaving law for a restaurant? Samantha's settling down? My guts rumble. And Carrie always struck me as a childfree type.

Oh and all the leaked photos from the shoots have all the girls in almost nothing but Zac Posen ready to wear and other stupidly expensive clothes (that I want). At this point, maybe it's best to treat the movie as an alternate universe where they can play dress up instead of a good story.

You know everyone is bitching and complaining about SATC 2...then don't see it! I myself am sick of seeing the same old same old, because you know, that's not life, people change, they change professions, they change lifestyles. I think these girls need a real ending, not some propped up opulent ending. Carrie having a child? I think thats what her character needs to really grow up, people have children, even those who seem childfree. Samantha settling down to Jerry? He was really good to her and she is getting old, do you really want to see her character fucking around until she is 80? Really? Miranda's choice is a good one too because it shows what happens to people in their careers during their midlife crisis. It's really not unheard of. As a fan I want to see it. The only bad thing I've read so far was Miley Cyrus is going to show up in it...bad casting.

Whatever...I love what you posted. Makes perfect sense to me. I'm 41 yrs old, a newly single mom going through a divorce with a man 11 years my junior. All my friends NEVER thought I would be the "child having" type but I love it and I needed to grow up a lil' too. The storyline of Big cheating is right on point. It was in his nature to mess up and people rarely change their nature. Miranda needed to do something different. I think the restaurant bizz makes sense. (her character) Is VERY smart and with all the time they've spent eating out what better place to start? She has a family now so she was BOUND to change something! Plus her long hours as an attorney almost destroyed her marriage. This way her and Steve can do something together. And HELL NO girl...nothings says desperate like an 80 yr old woman still f-ing around. I don't care HOW good she still looks for her age! Her character is lucky to have a younger man who looks like Smith Jerrod who still wants her. Because my mother-in-law convinced my husband he was young and should be doing something other than being tied down to marriage. I also agree with the Miley casting. I'd rather they use Fergie...someone more relevant and age appropriate (my opinion). I hope you enjoy it. Forget the haters, I for one will go and see it. It is after all "entertainment."

i am planning on seeing this movie when it comes out but i can safely save miley being in it has put me off just a little but i am sure i can just close my eyes or ears at her bit lol... not sure what she'd have to go with the movie unless she's giving out sex tips from her older boyfriend... anyways i didn't think they would acutally land carrie with a baby and on her own bit of a shame, but i kind of see it coming. i know she loved big but why the hell did she even marry him other than that? if my OH was even half as bad as big i would have left his ass a long time ago. is this the final movie or are they planning on carrying it on after they have thier kids?

Loved the show...up to season 5...and it was for me all downhill from there. More the show became popular, more it left its origins and became another mainstream silly show. In the first seasons the show was about issues in the lives of single, urban 30-somethings that no one talked so frankly about. As the seasons went on, the show became first a Barbara Straisend version of itself and then a brainless, spoiled, hi-fashion cliche. Then, the movie happened, which I (and several of my friends, die-hard fans of the show as they were) did not have the stomach to finish and left the theater. It insulted the intelligence of so many fans of the show that felt betrayed by the syrupy, commercial feel of it all.
Out of respect and why not, nostalgia about the show that it used to be, I decided to check out this trailer, but the characters have become cartoons of themselves and there is nothing in any of them (with the exception perhaps of Charlotte) to remind me of the women they used to be 10 years ago. I will NOT go to watch this movie. I watched the show as a single women, then as a married one, and the movie as a mom with two children who is still as urban and quirky as it used to be, and both my husband and I think that they should quit while they are ahead...

Christa, thank you :) All the depth, trust, intelligence, irony and fun of first seasons desapeared in one big shallow fashion show. What a pitty....
