Mike White Starts a Santa Claus Civil War

Not pleased with the likes of our latest serving of A Christmas Carol? Want a little more originality served with your ho-ho-ho's? This might be the answer: Variety reports that Paramount Pictures has tapped Mike White to write the script for a new comedy called Santa Wars. Oh yes, it's just like you'd imagine. This project will follow the story of two rival factions that emerged within a group of professional Kris Kringles, and how they "became arch enemies during a Santa Claus civil war." And I should probably point out -- this concept is based on a true story. It all stems from a segment on Ira Glass' radio show This American Life, which aired last December and talked about how two professional Santas formed the Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas, only to become bitter rivals.
Talk about picking the perfect pen. White is the writer of all things weird, whether that be with creepy stalkers, transcript trouble, discontent with mundane life, rock 'n' roll classes, strange wrasslers, or dog obsession. Furthermore, he's jumped back and forth between mainstream and edgy indies, which means the potential for a film that will appeal to more than just the casual, family fare moviegoer. Let's just hope Paramount ignores this year's strange release schedules (Valentine's Day in the summer, Christmas before Thanskgiving) and serves this puppy up during the right season.

Having the ability to know this story all to weel. I feel this is not a story worthy of telling. First off you have your facts wrong. Two Santas did not start AORBS. One man started it after 10 men were in a comercial and decided to get together every January to talk about their seasons. This word got out ane after many years the group grew to over 1200. At that time it was a one man show to keep it going. This man decided to become a group with officers and all that go's with a Non Profit group. Then a few bad apples saw an opertunity to gain control and the card pallace crumbled. Now this group is lucky if they call for a gathering to get 2 dozen men to come. Yet they claim to have over 700.
A NEW and transparant group started from the ashes and this group is bring all the Santas that had either quit or were kicked out buy the two thugs that took over the other group.
This new group is only a year old and have bonded the broken down orgasnization back into a powerful force of Great Santas. Every one of them a class act. They put on an annual Luncheon that brings together over 400 friends each year to talk about their seasons. And this year they are even putting on the International Santa Jamboree in California. Really this story should not be a "cival War" but should try to bring a smile to faces young and old. Show what Santas really do throught the year in their toy drives, visits to hospitals, visiting all kids young and old to do nothing but wish them a great day. To put smiles on faces is what Santa is about.

It is unfortunate this issue is gaining notoriety now-- at the start of the Christmas season.
The breakup in 2007-2008 was heartbreaking to nearly 1,3000 Santas who saw their beloved organization usurped and destroyed by several venial "Santas" who were apparently only interested in money and power.
I hope the writer gets his facts straight in writing the story.
