Who Will Be The Crow?

Oh, The Crow! I loved you so! I had the poster, the comic book by James O'Barr, the T-shirt, and the unrequited crush on Brandon Lee, whose tragic death only fanned the flames of my teenage desire. I even went to see the sequel, The Crow: City of Angels, which featured the spectacularly bad line, "F*ck you, bird d*ck!" uttered by none other than Iggy Pop. (I did, however, forget to light a candle for its 15th anniversary earlier this fall. Sniff.)As previously reported, there is a relaunch being written by Stephen Norrington, who will also direct, that might not even include Eric Draven, the main character (sacre bleu!). The last time that Norrington took a crack at directing a beloved comic book was the 2003 stinker The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but as io9.com reported, so far the script is getting good reviews. Meredith Woerner at io9.com coaxed some details from producer Ryan Kavanaugh (Nine, Brothers, Zombieland), and while he wouldn't reveal which actor is going to be smearing himself with makeup to wreak vengeance on those who violated and murdered his beloved, he did say it will be "a whole relaunch of the franchise, much more of a dark superhero type" and starring an already-established actor.
I'm scratching my brain meats to try and think of some possible candidates, but I'm coming up short. Naturally, they could reel in bazillions of fans just by casting you know who, but that's a gimme. I would pay to see Michael Cera trussed up in a faux bondage outfit and spooky makeup (he looks good with a moustache, so perhaps makeup is the next step?). Seriously though, what about Zachary Quinto,? Warren Peace from Sky High? (Thanks, Monika!) Or, as Kavanaugh says, "The best way to compare it is the first Batman and Batman Begins." Or when Heath Ledger was announced as the Joker for The Dark Knight?
I've made my admittedly silly suggestions, but hopefully you can also help us guess who will be diving into this series, black electrical tape and all.

I can see a Crow reboot being a perfect vehicle for Joseph Gordon-Levitt to get his name out there in a big bad way. But hey, that's me, right?

I think that's a great idea. I would be a lot more enthused about it if Levitt was involved, personally.

The Gordon-Levitt casting might work (excellent suggestion).
I'm sorry but THE CROW may be 1 of my 10 all-time favorite films & it is largely because of Brandon Lee's performance. The bad guys were outstanding --some of the best ever assembled for a movie-- along with Ernie Hudson & the girl. But Eric Draven without Lee is almost unimaginable. It was such an iconic performance.

if they cast Robert Pattinson, I think I might want to shoot myself.

For years I’ve been thinking about a way to save The Crow series from the low budget mediocrity it's been relegated to. I'm not really sure these are the guys to pull it off but...
That said, I think JGL is a pretty good choice, but I'd also like to see them consider Channing Tatum, Jake Gyllenhaal, and even Gerard Butler (for that super muscular, quote the raven, european feel).

I really wish they would leave Brandon's legacy intact. To me he will always be the only Eric Draven. Im open to more 'sequals/new stories' as long as they put some actual time and effort into the script and give the movie some sort of decent budget. All the other crow movies lets face it have been awful and paled in comparison to the original.

I feel the exact same way. For the diehard fans of The Crow such as I was many years ago and still am to this day, there will always and only be on Crow and that's Brandon Lee. To make a remake and try and find another actor who had the intensity, draw, and sexiness that Brandon Lee had is going to be very hard if not just impossible. I say leave Brandon's Legacy alone and make another movie to add on to the sequel. But since my opinion really isn't going to do much if a remake has to be made I hope to dear lord that it out does this whole Twilight BS and gains an even stronger cult following than it has now which doesn't include screaming teenage brace faced 15 year olds drooling over a frail, pale, skinny brit who has a flat nose.

To remake The Crow is a mistake....but to make a New story line and relaunch The Crow series in the manner it deserves is wonderful! Will they do a good job... probably not especially if they cast Robert...Dear God the world would truly be comming to an end and Brandon Lee will probably rise form the grave. There are several books out there so they don't have to start with the original. Poppy Z Brite, David Bischoff, Norman Partridge to name a few all have story lines that can be translated to film. I'll be watching this one close to see how and if they slaughter it. This isn't Superman or Batman it's The Crow different kind of avenger different way to approach the movie.
