Discuss: What Were Your Best Black Friday Deals?
As my Twitter feed fills with constantly re-Tweeted online bargains (be still, my weeping wallet), and as our own site did its best to prepare you readers for today's Thunderdome of savings, it's likely that a great many of you ventured out to capitalize on Black Friday in all its mania. There were certainly deals to be had on movies and home entertainment equipment alike, and that's really what we want to hear about (not that a thirty-dollar camping tent isn't impressive or anything).
Where'd you go? How long did you wait in line? How cold was it? How busy was it? What did you get? What was already gone? Did you upgrade to Blu-ray this year? And did any of our readership outside the States take advantage of the online deals without leaving the comfort of your own home?
So go ahead, brag and boast about your claimed trophies. Me? I've got an empty wallet to console.

I went to the local Wal-Mart, I live in a small town so getting there at 5 I grabbed the 20ish DVDs/BRs that I wanted from the $2/$5/$10 racks and was out of there before 5:15 AM. Just gotta beat all of those other people to the checkout line.
Also grabbed the PS3 bundle on Amazon+Braveheart+Gladiator.
I would say all in all pretty iffy in terms of deals overall. Perhaps I just expect too much. Wasn't anything you don't see on occasion randomly on the Internet.

I stayed home for the first time in a couple years, opting for online. I usually shop Kohl's, so bought some gifts from their online site - painful! Sluggish, timed out, and other issues - but at least my items didn't get sold out in the 30 minutes it took to buy 3 items.
I've upgraded to Blu-ray, based on recommendations from Arthouse Cowboy. Bought the Samsung BD-P1600 through Amazon.com. Boyfriend admitted AFTER I bought it that he would've saved up for a more expensive model, but not for another 6 months to a year. I was ready for it NOW, having gone on a DVD buying hiatus after seeing the poor quality of the first Stargate movie I'd picked up in a box set.
We'll connect to our newest TV - Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 52-Inch 1080p LCD Flat Panel HDTV. I also picked up a Wi-Fi adapter since win the bedroom, no ethernet drop in that room yet.
I bought several Blu-ray disks through Amazon, including THE DARK KNIGHT, CORALINE, BARAKA, DARK CITY, AND THE MIST (2 disc). Bummed that if I buy WRATH OF KHAN off Amazon, it won't arrive until after Christmas. All great prices, very affordable. Still pondering picking up the 400 BLOWS.
Only store shopping this year - HalfPriced Books!

I got a 46" Sharp LCD at Wal*Mart for $700. Went there hoping to get the 42" for $500, but all they had left was the floor model from May. No thanks. And best part was this was 3 weeks ago. I still had to get up early, but I didn't have to deal with anywhere near the crowds I would have had to today. And I haven't seen a better deal since, including today. So win-win.

Actually hit Walmart at about 530ish and got DVDs. Drumline for $2 (and I've never been able to find it on DVD before now!) and The Dark Knight for $5! Both for me, of course. Lines weren't all that bad, except for when we first came in(scarily long!) people were swarming those DVDs though. Really regreting not grabbing the $2 True Lies DVD for my mom.

Target - Western Digital 1 TB external hard drive for $60, Best Buy - Matrix, Hellboy 2 BR's for $13 ea. Smallville Season 8, $10
After what I saw I wonder if in the future Black friday will revert to online only. Target - a woman pushed her cart and hit a 10 year old kid, knocked him down, didn't turn to say sorry or anything, just kept pushin through. Really? I mean, yeah, when there's a deal people seem to show the worst in themselves, but it gets dangerous.

How long does it take to make a movie? Six months in pre-production? Six weeks’ shooting? Six years for a writer to dream it all up in the first place? How about 30 days? That’s the challenge a group of three young L.A. filmmakers have set themselves. Their aim is to make a 90 minute feature film – from initial concept to production – in just one month. Start date, November 20th, 2009. Here is their website that is documenting their progress day by day. http://www.30dayfeaturefilmchallenge.com - check out the current dream team in just 8 days. Last week I picked up a monitor cable to connect my MacBook to my TV. So yesterday, my best Black Friday deal was being able to watch Hulu on my TV finally (too convoluted of a project to get it working on PS3), and watch older shows for free. It's the gift that keeps on giving.
I avoided tons of drooling idiots who think they are getting something cheaper than any other day in the year by staying home. Seems to have worked out pretty well. God knows everyone else just NEEDED that new TV yesterday. Couldn't live without it.
