I'm not sure how the golden globes work. How does a movie get nominated....when it's not even released yet?

There's a cut off for the release date. Most of the movies you haven't seen in your local theatres have been released in a limited format in NYC/LA.

The film that's nominated may have been shown in a few theaters in larger cities such as New York or Chicago. As long as it was released somewhere it qualifies for a nomination.

tobey Maguire for best actor,
greatest performance by far in his career.
especially the last 18 minutes of the movie. who knew he could play a role with that kind of standard.

"Tobey" Maguire's name is spelled wrong.

Avatar for Best Motion Picture? Really?
If you're open-minded enough to include sci-fi, then why Avatar and not District 9?
What critic in their right mind actually thinks Avatar is better than District 9?

good line-up. but, in tandem with what chris asked...who judges? rsharp wrote 'screened by the press'...is this the HF press? how are the films/actors assessed (general vote, category, rate). its obviously not 'box office draw'. very curious. however, i am disappointed gerard butler or f.gary gray were not recognized.

Where's Sam Rockwell?
Hurt Locker was just okay, Jeremy Renner was great in it though.

Where is Lee Daniels nomination for directing "Precious" as well as Mariah Carey's supporting role nomination? I mean all Clint Eastwood has to do is just put his name on a film and he's nominated? I love Meryl Streep, and she is my favorite actress, but two nominations for supporting actress? Come on? These nominations are most definitely based on popularity rather than performance.

Perhaps it's because Precious was an exploitative piece of crap. At least he's two for two for demeaning black actresses.
Why is HWood swallowing this crap?

this is a reponse to christian howells comment i am a black woman and i think that precious was a wonderful movie it basicaly let high society see what really happens to us low income women and what not haveing things does to ourlives and it shows how the cycle of slavery that was put opon us years ago is stil alive and kicking even in 2010 america needs to see how they have let us black people down
