James Cameron's Cheesy '80s Music Video Starring Kathryn Bigelow!
The Kathryn Bigelow v. James Cameron showdown chatter isn't going to stop any time soon, especially with this latest goody found on the dusty shelves of history. Back in 1988, Bill Paxton had a truly terrible little band called Martini Ranch, and Cameron shot a long music video for them featuring his future wife, one Ms. Bigelow. The video follows Paxton as he rides into a dusty town, slowly taking in the sights -- coffins being hammered, a man in the stockade. It's all serious and somber until he spies one beefcake lady melting iron and hammering on an anvil, some ladies of ill repute, and a lounging Adrian Pasdar (of Heroes and Near Dark fame), as he drives up to the local bar. Then all musical hell breaks loose; the beats start, and Bigelow and her crew arrive on the scene.
She's just about the most beautiful and clothed guntoter out there. (Wearing twice as much clothes as the rest of her posse, I can just imagine the conversations that circled around her wardrobe.) She puts a cd in the player, and ... well, you just have to see the terribleness for yourself -- which includes a cameo by Judge Reinhold, a dude buried up to his neck in sand as he tries to drink a martini, and Bill getting his bum branded by Bigelow.
Gotta love the '80s.

Terrible little band?
"Reach" is one of the greatest songs of the decade! It's only too bad that Martini Ranch did not reach the fame of their talented contemporaries U2 and REM.

It is as gross as their current movies. It is clear they both make fascist movies for their fascist viewers. She as he are clueless about their political rhetoric as are their populace fans. MAy they all quickly escape to bug monster future. Yuk, really a bomb detonator... when we shocked and awed Iraq by the viewer training of shock and awe Hollywood. May they all go to Abu Garib.

There were quite a few people from "Aliens" in that video: the aforementioned Paul Reiser and Jenette Goldstein; also, Lance Henriksen as the gang member with the monkey on his shoulder, and Mark Rolston ("Drake" from Aliens) as the first gang member to slide away from Paxton's side.
I saw this video when it first premiered on VH1 and loved it! It was great fun and was meant in that spirit. And Martini Ranch was a good little band (although Paxton wasn't a great singer) that were in it for fun also.
And Kathryn Bigelow, yes, is totally hot in this video, and is still beautiful in her 50s. Damn, Cameron, what happened? I guess two directors in one house was one too many.
