'Ghostbusters 3' News: Murray Confirms Rumors, Possible Villain Revealed?
Filed under: Comedy, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, RumorMonger, Remakes and Sequels

As the writers slave over another draft of the Ghostbusters 3 script -- with production hopefully beginning later this year -- some more news regarding the film's storyline has slipped out across these internets, with one aspect being an exclusive to Cinematical.
Possible spoilers for Ghostbusters 3 to follow ...
First up is the news that Bill Murray has confirmed his other-worldly role in the film. A few months back, Sigourney Weaver had let slip that Murray was going to be playing a ghost in the film -- a rumor that was later squashed by folks who claimed that particular storyline was featured in a very old draft. However, Murray has now gone on record as not only disliking the second Ghostbusters movie (something he's said before) and thinking that Groundhog Day should've been a bigger hit, but also noting that he would only return to the Ghostbusters franchise if they made his character a ghost. He says, "I said to them, 'I'll do it if you kill me off in the first reel.' So now they are going to have me as a ghost in the film." Murray as a ghost? I hope it works. What do you think?
Meanwhile, as most talk revolves around the returning actors and the identity of the new recruits, little has been said about the film's mythology and who (or what) the Ghostbusters will be battling this time around. Well, Cinematical has it on very good authority that as recent as this past summer, the central mythology of the sequel was being based on Zoroastrianism, which is one of the earliest religions on record. Like with most religions, the war between good and evil is at its central core, and in terms of evil there's Ahriman: the god of darkness, the eternal destroyer of good, personification and creator of evil, bringer of death and disease.
Is Ahriman the film's villain?
Unfortunately, we cannot confirm that Ahriman is or isn't the villain, but if the writers are still working with Zoroastrianism as the basis for the film's mythology, then it would make sense that Ahriman would play a big role in unleashing evil spirits into our world, much like Gozer did in the first film. Ahriman also existed as a character in Highlander: The Series, where it was said that the demon returned to Earth every thousand years to wreak havoc. Like we said before, this is all speculation based on the news that Ghostbusters 3 will revolve in some way around the ancient religion of Zoroastrianism. Of course, as we hear more, we'll let you know.

I'm in line to see Venkman as a ghost. The amount of jokes just in that will make it great. I definitely there should be a "hot-badass chick" role. Maybe she could be Murray's daughter who he has to look out for because of some curse or another.
I could see Saoirse Ronan or at the opposite end Kat Denning or for the best performance Meagan Good.
They would all look good in the suit.

Actually I think Murray as a ghost is a perfect fit. It wouldn't feel right for him to still be acting like a womanizing, careless creep, and his dialog has always been difficult to nail down (for instance, in the Ghostbusters game). I think a ghostly version of him will allow Venkman to be goofy without killing the realism of the plot. (I hope!)

I am a little bit on the fence with this. If they can get all the original cast together then that would be a big plus. If they can't do that then the movie should be a no-go. Second the script needs to be really good! I wonder if it would conflict with the video game story line though?
With that said I enjoyed how Stallon created one more rocky and rambo, both movies were good in my mind.

Not a good idea to make fun of Zoroastrianism; it's followers still exist in the Middle East, especially Iran, and are persecuted there by the Islamic rulers. This is an ancient religion, and part of the Persian culture. Let's hope it doesn't become the plot of a comedy movie.
That said, I would love a good Ghostbusters3, with young stars, as long as they heavily feature all the old 'Busters.

Give me a break! Don't make fun of a religion? People need to get some thicker skin and learn to deal with things like this. I am a Christian, as as such, I deal with all kinds of ridicule. I certainly wouldn't stop someone from making a movie about Christianity that was comical. It's called free speech.

Christian, no good will ever come from the daughter/son plot line. It is weak writing. There is no reason for their to be a familial relationship between the older generation and the new. IF, they included any family, their spawn would hate them. They are losers. The whole point of the films, which I love, is these three are not heroes; they are at best a con-artist, a simpleton, and a mad scientist.
Jano4, only if they have a good script? Really? When has that ever stopped Hollywood from making a film? I am sure most people, including myself, would have a hard time knowing when it’s the scripts fault a film tanked. Your comment is like saying you shouldn’t go out in a rainstorm unless you intend to get wet. You are not adding anything by saying that. As far a the video game...yeah, who cares? If we were talking Halo I would be behind you, but video game media does not work that way. If I had to guess, they agreed to license it only in as far as to test the waters for a sequel.
Now, “let’s see what happens when we take the puppy away.”

i love the GB's... a little too much... i have the freakin logo tattooed on my left forearm... i paid extra to have "ECTO 1" on my license plate on my first car... "That's right boys, it's Dr. Venkman!" is my ringtone on my phone... having said all that, i really don't care what they plan on doing to the story in Ghostbusters III... as long as they make the dam movie, that's all i care about... i've been waiting a long time for this movie... so... let's all just agree that we want to see this happen, haha!
oh... as for the "hot, badass chick"... Eliza Dushku is heavily rumored... let's keep our fingers crossed eh? :-)

The quote was, "He says, "I said to them, 'I'll do it if you kill me off in the first reel.' " I read that to mean that he would only be in the movie if his part was small and he died early on. I don't know, that's just how I'm reading it.
I don't know if I like the idea of a Ghostbusters III. We'll se how it is, I guess.

I think Craig Robinsion, John Cusack, Rob Corddry, and/or Angelina Jolie, Ed Helms would be great for GB3! I think if they spent some time knowning the orignal GBs they would mess very well to for the new generation. I dont think I would want to see an Extreme GB story. Kids or teen GBs would destroy the movie. If it is casted as a younger cast please, please get a good cast. Maybe some NB and make them into something GREAT!
