Is Tracy Morgan in 'Jaws 3D' Really That Ridiculous?
Filed under: Horror, RumorMonger, Remakes and Sequels

When we hear a ridiculous rumor, it's quite easy to become either incensed at the sheer audaciousness of the claim, or laugh it off as too stupid to be true. Take this latest goodie: Cinema Blend reports that a source at Universal Pictures claims that since audiences are expecting more from their movies, the studio wants to tap into the franchise pile for 3D magic, and are "strongly considering" a remake of Jaws "in hopes of dazzling younger audiences with new special effects."
The notion makes sense. If there's one movie that would look downright gorgeous in Real D 3D, it's Jaws. However, folks, that's not all. That same insider claims that Tracy Morgan has been considered for the role of Richard Dreyfus' Matt Hooper, but it's "uncertain" whether he's still in the running. To hedge their gossip bets, Cinema Blend states that this is a new source and could be hooey just as much as it could be truth.
It's easy to shudder when thinking of a comedic Jaws led by Morgan, because the thought sounds downright terrible, but let's back up. See that shark up there with the super-visible robot metal in his mouth? That's the big beast of Jaws 4. After that monstrosity of moviemaking, is it really that ridiculous to imagine Morgan facing off against a 3D shark?
It's either the stupidest, most moronic rumor of the year, or a sad reminder of where Hollywood is heading in the future. You make the call ...

Maybe Morgan should stick with 'Scare Tactics', it suits his comedic talent.
On second thought, maybe he should just quit show business. I hear bricklaying pays pretty well, and it suits his comedic talent about as much as 'Scare Tactics'.

A giant shark with a mechanical pole in its mouth is far easier to suspend my disbelief of than Tracy Morgan trying to make an emotional connection with the audience.

I would hope the Benchley estate respects what would be the author's recalcitrance in any more Jaws film being made. In his later life, Peter Benchley was an avid conservationist and regretted the negative image and increased hunting of great whites that resulted from Jaws.

I hope that Benchley will NOT let that happen. Whoever told the Universal rep. that audiences are expecting more from their movies he failed to say what expectations they have. Well as a member of the movie going public. What I and others expect is something NEW not a re-make ( certain films should never be re-made-are you listening Warner Bros? Wizard of Oz should NEVER be re-made, if you must do a re-make do a film that was horrible and make it better, don't take a great film and make it a peice of crap.) I am as a lot of people are SICK of re-makes. On the big and small screen (are you listening CW Network?) Another thing that pisses me off is these studio exces that are so far out of touch with the public are being told and are passing along false information.
I want to see filmmaking brougt back as an art. When it was made with integrity, sweat, tears, and talent, NOT CGI characters and scenes anyone can make a film with a computer. (are you listening James Cameron?)

well said, Shawn. Somebody needs to kick those soda corporation ding dongs off their pedestals. They have no idea on how to run a movie studio. I wouldn't get too riled up though because so far its just in the rumor stage. if it progresses any further, people can warn others about it and let them watch Spielberg's classic orignal. That way, if this remake does materialize, the people who do go to it will say it stinks, less people will come, and the movie will be such a bomb that the studio will have to rethink their strategy. Eeven if a remake does materialize, the original will still live. I mean the original Psycho survived being remade, right?

no mention of the already existing sequel called "Jaws 3-D" ... which as the name suggests... was in 3D? it was 1983-era 3-D but it was 3-D nonetheless. i'd expect at least a cursory mention.

Sad reminder, for a couple years anyway. Hopefully, If history is any indicator, this 3D junk will fade once peoples appetites for it go away.

please don't do this. it'll end up like deep blue sea and the thing that worked with Jaws is the fact that you don't get to see the shark until the very end keeping the suspense high throughout. This is also part of the reason why sequals didn't work as well as the original... some films should be left alone as what they were....

I am so annoyed by this stupid reboot 3D crap that I totally favor a funny Tracy Morgan take off of Jaws; rather than a would be scary film.

Haven't we seen enough "Jaws" ? Why can't they find another story idea to work with? I doubt that I would bother to go to this 3D remake of Jaws. The first one was the best and the only one I thought worthy of paying to see. One or two of the sequels were only ok if you could believe a shark could hold a grudge and follow a family who lives on land to seek it's vengance.

enjoyed jaws at the time, however the shark's lack of realism
almost ruined it for me. even in 1975. from there it just went downhill.
i'd like a remake, but only if they did it well. which they won't.
3d is not important. i'd much rather see a well made movie w/suspense, good script. you don't have to keep to the original.

Stop ruining my movies! They are classics for a REASON! Jaws is fine, always has been, always will be. You don't need to add special effects resulting in an all-out gore fest and token black guy comedic lines to make this movie good. If it's not broken, don't fix it!
