What if Tim Burton Remade 'Weekend at Bernie's'?

A few weeks ago, Peter took a look at the latest developments on the Weekend at Bernie's remake, and based on the amount of comments the post received, a lot of you seem to care one way or another about the 1989 original. Or, you at least have something to say about the concept of remakes. Either way, I'm sure you'd love to see what a Bernie's redo would look like if Tim Burton directed it with Johnny Depp in the titular role of the dead man. For better or worse, the guys at LandlineTV have made something to satisfy that curiosity.I say for better or worse, because I honestly don't find their video to be all that humorous nor a worthy imitation of Burton's style. I hate to be so critical, as they seem to have put a lot of effort into this. I do love the concept, at least, but as I make a point to show with my Pitch of the Day posts, there are plenty of good ideas out there. But it's the execution that requires true effort and talent. For me, this clip goes along with other recent so-so attempts to understand specific auteur's aesthetics, such as the imagined Wes Anderson Spider-Man trailer and most of that hypothetical filmmaker-directed Super Bowl video.
I'm now at least intrigued about what a Burton remake of Bernie's really would look like. And I'm also wondering what other classic and cult classic films would be fitting for him to take on. With Planet of the Apes and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and somewhat with the re-imaginings of Sleepy Hollow and Alice in Wonderland, Burton is becoming more and more synonymous with a certain defense for remakes -- that idea of remakes being worthwhile if directed by visionary filmmakers. Personally, I'd like to see how his style could be applied to the Mannequin remake. What else?

The saddest part of this is how close to reality it is. Does Tim Burton even show up for his movies anymore? Or just hand the crew a flowchart and the same cast from the last one?

I absolutely ADORE this trailer. I believe I laughed the hardest on my fourth viewing. It's not just a send-up of Burton but of movie trailers in general, Elfman, and perhaps most importantly, the fact that Johnny Depp has played the same character in every movie since 2003.
I mean...having the "two schmucks" control Bernie using luminescent green magical marionette strings? Just brilliant. I wouldn't consider the "impression" of Depp to be anything great, but just him saying these asinine wink-wink nudge-nudge lines and acting like Captain Jack Sparrow playing Bernie Lomax with a curlicue mustache and ridiculous attempts at physical comedy is so genius.
